Naga Kiti Silat team made a scintillating performance today at the Hornbill festival in Kisama.


Naga Kiti Silat is a traditional mixed form art from Nagaland which is collectively encompasses of Indonesian art and various styles of martial arts and sports established in 15 January 2016.


Naga Kiti Silat team under the banner of Nagaland Pencak Silat Association (NPSA) performed Tunggal, Tanding, Ganda and Regu.


This art involves striking, grapping techniques and throwing where performers are allowed to use certain types of weapon during the events and currently, Silat martial art has been spread to 93 Nations with each of the countries establishing its own Pencak Silat association.


It is also quite similar to indigenous Sumi Naga kick fighting known as "Kiti" or "Apkhu-Kiti" which has originated from their forefathers and the primary purpose of the art is to build up the fitness among the local youths for settlement of any disputes.  From far away, it would seem like the art had hugely taken its inspiration from various different form of martial arts.


In the recent years, the Naga Kiti Silat has bought many laurels to the state by winning many medals in Juniors, Sub-Juniors and senior national Pencak Silat championship. 


The purpose of Naga Kiti silat team is to develop and promote Pencak Silat and its values through unity and friendship among all tribes in Nagaland, as a valuable indigenous art by spreading the consciousness of patriotism of  the  nation,  brotherhood,  noble character with  physical fitness,  warrior spirit,  mental-spiritual and good conduct among youths by  providing  platforms and teaching them awareness of self defense skills within the young females generations as to contribute to the eradication of chaotic and barbaric situation being faced by the females in the present society.
