Dimapur, December 14 (MExN): Deputy Superintendent of Police Thungrhoni Kikon of Nagaland has been awarded the Meghalaya Governor’s Sword of Honor award in ‘All Round Best Probationer’ category, Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Baton of Honor award as well as the NEPA gold medal in indoor training. The police officer from Nagaland is one of the about 56 police officers who were commissioned into active policing after completing a one-year counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism training course at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA).
Officers were drawn from Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh and put through training aimed at enhancing their operational efficiency both theoretically and in practical, news agencies reported today.
Sub-Inspector Th Sarda Devi of Manipur has won the Meghalaya Governor’s Sword of Honor (All Round Best Cadet) while Deputy Superintendent of Police Bomto Kamdak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar of Arunachal Pradesh, have won the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Baton of Honor and NEPA gold medal, respectively.
Established in 1978 on the recommendations of a core committee to provide training to police personnel of North East state police organizations, NEPA trains about 500 police officers annually. In 2011 alone, 924 police officers from different parts of the country were trained in 41 in-service courses.
