Naga Students’ Federation commemorates I-Day

Kohima, August 14 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) on the occasion of Naga Independence day extended greetings to all the Naga people living in different parts of the world. 

“As Nagalim celebrates its 74th year of its length and breath, free from any occupational and imperialistic forces, the federation joins the Naga people in taking their legacy forward. Today's celebration is in furtherance of the Naga people's legitimate rights based on historical facts,” NSF Media Cell stated in a press note. 

The Federation has also reiterated its appeal to the Naga people “to love one another unconditionally, accept each other's weaknesses, respect each other's differences and together with Christ, strive towards our ultimate goal.”

The NSF and All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) officials hoisted the Naga National Flag at Oking NSF, Kohima on August 14. 

Meanwhile, as notified earlier, all federating units and sub-ordinate bodies of the Federation hoisted the Naga National Flag at their respective Oking to mark the celebration on August 14. 

Rengma Students' Union: The Rengma Students' Union (RSU) celebrated the 74th Naga Independence Day at the historic site, Parashen- the place where the Naga National Flag of the then newly formed Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) was first hoisted on March 22, 1956. 

The programme chaired by Heiko Kent, President RSU opened with Bible passage and prayer followed by the unfurling of the Naga National Flag.

A press release from RSU stated that RSZ President Kenneth Kath reiterated that the Rengma people have always remained steadfast in the political history of the Nagas and will continue to press forward until the aspiration of the Naga people is realised. He called upon the international community to acknowledge and honour “our unique identity, our rights, our rich tradition and cultural practices and of our very existence as a free people,” while urging for unity among the various stakeholders and the Naga people in general.

NSF Secretary Education, Kegwayhun Tep paying his homage and respect in memory of all those who have died, stated added that the younger generation shall remain indebted for the sacrifices made by the men and women who gave up their lives for the identity and sovereignty of the Naga people. He further added that the occasion calls for "each one of us to reflect back on all the past leaders and martyrs on whose sacrifices we now stand today", while also extending solidarity to "the Nationalists at present who have dedicated their lives in pursuing the aspirations of the Naga people".
