Naga United Village Council rejects High Court’s judgment

Dimapur, December 23 (MExN): “Naga United Village Council, Intanki” today rejected and “condemned” the Gauhati High Court judgment order of August 24, 2011, which stated that Beisumpuikam village, a village in Intangki, was the original landowner of Intanki, reserved Forest.
“Naga United Village Council, Intanki” informed today that the settlers held a meeting on December 14 and “strongly condemned and rejected the Gauhati High Court judgment order dated 24th August 2011 stating that Beisumpuikam village was the original land owner of Intanki Forest which the meeting rejected as baseless and lie.”
The settlers claimed that there “is a long pending court case over land issue between Beisumpuikam village and Forest department.” Therefore, a note from “Naga United Village Council” claimed today, “Beisumpuikam village was the first encroachers of Intanki Reserve Forest.”
After deliberations the settlers also resolved to withdraw or vacate the village as desired by the state government “even at the cost of human lives and crores of rupees in terms of investment.”
However, the “Naga United villagers” urged the state government to keep its word and “evict all the encroachers” including Beisumpuikam village from Intanki Forest within October 31, 2012, failing which the settlers “would return to re-establish the village.” The note was appended by the “council” chairperson Sazo Zumvu and secretary C Pili Pochury.
