‘Naga youth jumps from head hunting to internet’

Admitting that Naga youths have tremendous talents, Governor Shyamal Datta urged upon them to believe in themselves, saying ‘if you have faith and trust you can do anything.’

Replying to a query during interaction with the youth of Nagaland at the launching programme of XL road show at Indoor Badminton Stadium, Kohima last night, Datta, however, expressed concern over the constraints of exposure amongst the youth and strongly felt that Naga youth require more exposure.Datta described the Naga youth as “very handsome, much disciplined smart, hospitable and open hearted.

On being asked his view on the fact that the Naga youth had jumped from head hunting to internet, Datta simply said that it was a long jump.

Maintaining that such a jump had shown the transformation of mind, Datta called upon the Naga youth to drive their mind in the right perspective to reach the desired destination. To the entrepreneurs, Datta urged them to focus on quality and at the same time underlined the need to improve their dealing with the customers and understand the sensitivity of the customers. Such areas will help fetch healthy result in the business sector, he opined.

About the required steps to become economically independent, Datta maintained that the people have to meet its demand first. 

He expressed dismay over the present scenario where several crores of rupees are involved in import of various essential commodities from outside the state. He said that Nagaland would become a prosperous state if the potential of agriculture is properly tapped. He also maintained that the state would become one of the most developed states if the mineral resources are tapped properly.

Replying to another query, Datta said he did not find anything wrong in the education system in the state. He, however, wanted to see that adequate training is provided to the school children to develop their mindset.

On unemployment problem, Datta called upon the youth to go for vocational courses and get equipped with knowledge and skills. He informed them that there are unlimited opportunities and market for them.

Stating that the job avenues in the government sector has reached to its saturation point, he advised the educated unemployed youth to seek the job opportunities outside the state as well, maintaining that the biggest advantage of the Naga youth is “English knowing.” On games on sports, he emphasized on the need to pick up the talents. “You have to pick up the talents,” he said. On the other hand, he was worried that the sports activities are not conducted on regular basics in educational institutions. Coaching facility is a must, he added.

On music, Datta maintained that the state can become one of the exporting states in the field of music.

We can do much more, he said adding that Naga youth have a tremendous strength and that they have potential to harness.

On the Right to Information Act, the Governor said the Act will make the government’s functioning “more transparent and more accountable”. The society will head for better days if people have the power of information, he said and hoped that the people, especially the Naga youth will make the best use of it.

Later, Datta released the CD on the theme song of the XL road show. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also attended the show. Divine Connection, Wave band and Setso performed at the show.
