Naga youths scale Mount Saramati

Dimapur, December 17 (MExN):  A group of Naga youths and a team from the Assam Rifle (AR) have successfully scaled Mount Saramati after a gap of 30 years, RPO IGAR (N) reported today. 

The team led by Major Ajay Balakrishna of 32 AR which included 18 Naga boys and 11 Naga girls scaled the highest peak in Nagaland, Mount Saramati located at a height of 3837 meters on December 14, a press release from IGAR (N) said. The note stated that the expedition is a small step towards a bigger goal of encouraging adventure among the youths of Nagaland by the Assam Rifle.   

“Nagaland offers excellent opportunities to undertake adventure activities. In this regard Assam Rifles has taken the lead to encourage the spirit of adventure amongst the youth. In addition to mountaineering other adventure activities are also being planned by Assam Rifles and it is hoped that the youth will come forward to participate as well,” the note stated.

The ‘flagging-in’ ceremony of the joint Assam Rifle Naga Youth Mount Saramati Expedition team was held at Chieswema by Brigadier R Ravi, Commander Headquarter 5 Sector Assam Rifle today. The note informed that the Naga youths were mostly school going hailing from different districts of Nagaland. The students belong to Sacred Heart School, Chizami; Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala, Jalukie; Mountain View School, Suruhato; Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha; Eastern Christian College, Dimapur and Patkai Christian College, Dimapur.

Commander Headquarters 5 Sector Assam Rifles complimented the team members especially the young boys and girls who showed tremendous potential and enthusiasm throughout the complete event.
