Kohima, August 27 (MExN): The 100 day campaign on ‘Sustainability of ODF gains and achieving million soak pits’ was launched at PHED Conference Hall, Kohima on August 27.
PHED Secretary Kesonyu Yhome launched the same and later released toolkits on ODF plus components. Speaking on the occasion, Yhome encouraged all field officers to gear up and put in all out efforts wherein all gram panchayats are covered in this 100 day campaign so that ODF status is sustained and improved behaviors around waste management such as grey water management is reinforced to ensure that people in the rural areas continue to realize sustainable health and hygiene benefits.
The 100 day campaign is focused to re-energize efforts at local level and mobilize people for collective action on achieving sustainability of ODF outcomes and achieve construction of a million soak pits for management of grey water in rural areas across the country.
The campaign also focuses on district level orientation of gram panchayats and to mobilize them to initiate action in their respective villages. It also focuses on the village community to pass resolution to maintain ODF sustainability.
Retrofitting of toilets through community mobilization and ensuring all new emerging households has access to toilets are some of the key activities that are to be undertaken to achieve the intended objective of the campaign.
The launching programme was chaired by Er Thsathrichem Sangtam, Chief Engineer, Sanitation & WSSO PHED. Closing remark was given by Er Repangyangba Longkumer, Chief Engineer & HoD, PHED.
