Two months after India’s first-ever national database of unorganised workers (NDUW) was launched by the Union government on August 26, Nagaland has registered a total of 30378 informal workers in the e-Shram portal as on October 17, according to the data available on the official dashboard.

Out of the 422,89,031 total registrations completed in the country till October 17, Nagaland’s registered unorganized workers accounted for 0.07% with 30378 registered till date as per the Union Ministry’s data.

Out of these, 24,989 registered through Common Service Centres (CSCs) and 5389 through self registration.

As per data available on the portal, Agriculture (69.33%), Construction (8.61%), Domestic and Household workers (5.35%), Apparel (2.75%) and Automobile & Transportation (2.11%) are the Top 5 occupation sectors of unorganized workers registered in Nagaland so far.

According to the dashboard data, out of the total registered unorganized workers, 39.9% are male and 60.09% are female.
1.57% of the registered workers in Nagaland are migrant workers.  Further, a majority (89.46%) of the workers belong to the 10,000 and below income slab.

States like Odisha (89,42,844), West Bengal (82,60,318) and Uttar Pradesh (69,59,972) have registered the highest number of unorganized workers.

Earlier, on September 19, The Morung Express had highlighted that the drive to register the unorganized workers in the State needs more push in order to help the workers avail the benefits envisaged in the initiative of the central government.

Subsequently, in districts like Mokokchung, the district administration has convened a meeting to mobilize and register unorganized workers.

The e-Shram portal has been developed with a view to build a comprehensive database of unorganized workforce in the country which will be seeded with Aadhaar for optimum realization of their employability and extend the benefits of the social security schemes to them.

A concerted effort towards ensuring registration would go a long way in helping unorganized workers gain access to such schemes and benefits.
