Dimapur, May 18 (MExN): In what has been described as a milestone in its efforts to curb tax evasion, the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate, Dimapur’s Anti-Evasion Unit, has recovered Rs 35 crore in GST from a Nagaland-based firm.
The recovery follows an investigation against M/s Naagaamii Infratech Pvt Ltd for non-payment of GST during the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25, according to a press release issued by the CGST Commissionerate, Dimapur.
Of the total amount, Rs 31.5 crore was recovered through cash payment, while the remaining Rs 3.5 crore was paid via Input Tax Credit (ITC).
Terming it a significant development in an ongoing investigation, the release further stated that the diligent efforts of CGST officers ensured compliance, resulting in a cumulative GST payment of approximately Rs 40 crore by the taxpayer to date.
“This action underscores CGST Dimapur’s commitment to safeguarding national revenue and ensuring adherence to tax regulations,” it added.
The CGST Dimapur noted that while GST has been a transformative reform in indirect taxation, “as with any reform of this magnitude, it is still evolving.”
To this end, the Commissionerate invited stakeholders to visit its GST Help Desk or Seva Kendra for any GST-related queries.
The GST taxpayers' money plays a pivotal role in nation-building, security, and economic growth. Revenue collected through GST strengthens the government's financial capacity to fund critical infrastructure projects and support social welfare programmes, it maintained.
The tax paid as GST bolsters national security by enabling investments in defense, law enforcement, and disaster management, ensuring a safe and stable environment, it added.
The Commissionerate also urged citizens and stakeholders to work collectively to harness GST’s full potential and contribute to building a transparent and thriving economy.
