DIMAPUR, JUNE 24 (MExN): In an offensive move to secure solution to the Naga political problem, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and CLP delegates led by President S.I. Jamir and CLP Leader Tokheho Yepthomi respectively met the Leader of Lok Sabha and Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and apprised him of the demand the team had earlier placed before the Prime Minister of India on Naga political issue. The delegate reiterated its suggestion that “pending un-amiable issues; interim solution acceptable to all the parties should be agreed upon within a time-frame”.
According to a press note from NPCC President S.I. Jamir, the team suggested that, since the multiple Naga political groups have the same goal, the “parties may be asked to formulate their opinions during this time-frame for final settlement”. The Nagaland Congress has also asked that the talks should be made transparent to enable all the groups and people to react constructively. “Solution involves, and will ultimately affect the stakeholders. Therefore, the people have the right to know their future and also participate in securing that future which they believe will be good for all”, stated the NPCC.
The delegate also conveyed to the Central leaders that the Nagaland Legislative Assembly had repeatedly adopted unanimous resolution to pave the way for honorable solution. They conveyed that the Congress men and women in the state stand together in the demand for time-frame solution. The team had conveyed the plight of the people of Nagaland who are tired of multiple extortion, taxation and ill-treatment by multiple governments. “People don’t want any more delay in finding the solution”, stated the NPCC.
According to the NPCC statement, the Finance Minister gave a patient hearing and they had fruitful interaction on the issue. He was positive to the suggestions put across by the joint team. The delegate had urged the Prime Minister, the Leader of Lok Sabha, other AICC leaders and the Centre’s interlocutor R.S. Pandey I.A.S (Rtd) that no stone should be left unturned to find the solution. They also requested the Northeast MPs to come together and suggest solution to the UPA Govt. The team was assured that the agenda would be discussed in the Northeast Congress MPs meeting in the second week of August when the parliament will be in monsoon session.
