The first batch of the Nagaland State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) today displayed the practical skills and knowledge they acquired during the one-month training on disaster management, at Central Training Institute (Home Guards & Civil Defence), Toluvi village, some 15km from Dimapur.
The SDRF personnel drawn from ‘A’ coy of 9 NAP (IR), gave a live demonstration on search and rescue operations during both man-made and natural disasters, at the closing function marking the completion of their training.
Simulating scenes of bomb blasts in crowded places, earthquakes and fire in high-rise buildings, the SDRF personnel in the demonstration, which was witnessed by Home minister Imkong L Imchen as chief guest and Parliamentary Secretary for Home Guards & Civil Defence, W Kithan, as guest of honour, showed that they were second to none in crisis response.
Commandant, CTI (HG &CD), N Itoshe Kibami who presented a “training report on the first batch of SDRF,” said that as per the remarks of one officer of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Guwahati, in practical aspects, the skills of the Nagaland SDRF surpassed even the NDRF jawans.
“Now they are fit enough to carry out search and rescue operations if and when disaster strikes, provided they are given all the tools and equipments,” the CTI commandant said.
Congratulating the passed out trainees, Home Minister Imkong Imchen in his address expressed full confidence the SDRF personnel would be able to respond to any disaster at any given time and location.
The Home minister also said that he fully agree to the suggestion of the CTI commandant that the training period for SDRF personnel should be increased from one month to 45 days.
Congratulating the SDRF personnel on successful completion of their training, Parliamentary Secretary for Home Guards & Civil Defence, W Kithan, also extended thanks to all resource persons and officers involved in the training.
Altogether, 101 personnel including an assistant commandant, an inspector, three sub inspectors, 25 NCOs and 72 constables, successfully completed the training.
The state government plans to have at least 500 SDRF personnel, to be trained in five batches, by April next year.
Director, CD and commandant GHQ, Michael Yaden chaired the programme and Deputy Secretary (RR & DM), Home department, Vysan proposed vote of thanks.
