Nagaland gets pending instalment of ULBs grants 

Dimapur, March 22 (MExN): Nagaland has been allotted a sum of Rs 6.115 crore as a part of pending instalment of the grants to state governments in view of the COVID-19  “Due to COVID-2019, the local bodies have to especially focus on providing basic civic services and ensure cleanliness,” Finance Minister's office stated in a tweet.  


According to an IANS report, the amount released were pending instalment of the grants to state governments under the 14th Finance Commission that was withheld as local elections had not taken place in these territories. The move was required in order to ensure that the basic services provided by local bodies are not affected, it said.  The amount for Nagaland was the 1st instalment for 2015-16 for urban local bodies.  Apart from Nagaland, pending instalments amounting Rs 2,570.0813 crore were released for urban and rural local bodies in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu.

"The amount released totals Rs 2,570.0813 crore, with Rs 940.8063 crore for rural local bodies and Rs 1,629.275 crore for urban local bodies. The amounts have already been credited to the accounts of the respective State governments,” the Finance Minister's office further informed.
