Nagaland Government looking to build ‘Naga Patient House’ in Vellore

Dimapur, February 14 (MExN): Nagaland Minister for PWD (Housing and Mechanical) Tongpang Ozukum met Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin in Chennai on Monday, to discuss matters related to allotment of a plot of land at Vellore for construction of Naga Patient House.

According to a press release, earlier on February 1, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had written to Stalin underscoring the problems and hardship faced by Naga patients seeking medical treatment in Vellore and Chennai. Stating that lack of proper accommodation was one of the main problems, Rio had sought allotment of land.

As a follow up, Minister Ozukum met with Stalin along with the Secretary PWD Housing, Tamil Nadu, member Secretary of Chennai Municipal Development Authority (CMDA) and also officials of the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB), the release stated. The team also visited a plot at Velachery which is nearby the airport for Nagaland House in Chennai. 

Chief Minister Stalin assured the delegation that he would look into the matter and also directed the officials to guide the delegation if they wished to visit Vellore and other places, the release stated.

During the interaction, Ozukum expressed gratitude to the Tamil Nadu government for helping the Naga community during the COVID-19 pandemic by arranging transportation for more than two thousand stranded Nagas across the state. 

According to the release, the delegation also presented gift packets of home grown Naga Coffee, Naga Honey and a souvenir of Nagaland state logo (Mithun) to the Tamil Nadu CM. The Minister was accompanied by Saravana, Special Secretary, Home, Government of Nagaland, Mon Deputy Commissioner Thavaseelan K, EE PWD Estate Division Ketousielie Kenguruse and Repa Ozukum, PA to Minister.
