Nagaland Governor visits Khonoma village

Kohima, November 18 (MExN): Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi and his wife Prem Mukhi visited Khonoma village on November 18. During the visit, Governor interacted with Khonoma village people where he was briefed on the transition of Khonoma- the first green village in India, from logging and hunting community to nature conservation community. As eco-tourism village, the responsibilities upheld by different community groups in the village were highlighted. 

In his short speech, Governor stated that through a book he came to know about the battles fought by the Khonoma people against the Britishers and securing victory against them with 'outdated weapons', he described them as bold, courageous and adventurous. He expressed happiness that after assuming office of Nagaland Governor, Khonoma was the first village he visited.

He expressed appreciation for the eco-tourism initiatives taken by the Village and mentioned that he would take up the matter of improving the road conditions with the government for better tourism experience, said a press release issued by PRO to Governor.

Chairman KNCTS, Kezhaseria Meyase gave a short speech on Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary; ETMC Chairman, Nikedolie Hiekha spoke on Eco-tourism initiatives in the Village; Wild Life Warden Dimapur, Tokaho IFS gave a power point presentation on the works done by Forest Department in the village.
