DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 22 (MExN): The state government through the Chief Secretary Lalthara has announced monetary compensation to the student protestors who were injured in the Pholongoni incident at Golaghat on September 16. In a first hint of the Nagaland government admitting the alleged high-handed actions by personnel of the ‘B’ Company of the 12th (NAP) IR, a press release from the chief secretary received today, sympathized and extended solidarity “to the victims of the acts of violence committed by the personnel of 12th NAP (IR) Battalion on agitating students near Golaghat on the 16th of September, 2010…”
The note let known the sanctioning of “…a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs to be given as financial assistance and relief to the 42 student volunteers of all Assam Students’ Union (AASU) who had suffered various degrees of injuries on their persons in the said incident of 16/9/2010”. The note further stated that the “financial assistance/relief will be paid through the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat who may decide the manner of distribution and the amount to be given to each affected students at his level”.
