State monitoring teams on COVID-19 visit Wokha, Jalukie and Longleng 

Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): For each district, the Nagaland government has nominated a senior officer to supervise and assist the DTF on COVID-19 to play as a bridge between the district and the state government and also to give feedback to the government about the requirement of the district to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wokha: Wokha District Task Force (DTF) on COVID-19 held a meeting with the state representatives, Commissions & Secretary, Excise and Sericulture Orenpemo Kikon and Joint Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr Chekroshuyi Tetso at DC’s conference hall on August 23.

According to a DIPR report, on the performance of the Wokha district to contain the pandemic, Orenpemo said that in the first wave, mortality rate of the district was last while in the second wave more than five hundred persons lost their lives out of which a few percentage has taken their first dose of vaccination but has also succumbed to COVID-19 and one person who has taken double dose lost his life due to other illness. “It has rightly proved that taking vaccination protects people from the pandemic,” he asserted. 

Speculating that “the state is expecting the third wave,” Kikon said, “we have to be prepared to prevent it as it can be very fatal to the children and specially to the younger generation, so keeping this in mind the state government has formed a supervisor board to assist each district to work out a strategy to contain the pandemic and how to create awareness to educate the people to get vaccinated even in the rural area.”

Kikon said testing should be ramped up including the vaccination rate. Facilities available for further preparations is also to be ascertained including ways and means to assist the DTF to make a plan on creating awareness and educate the people even in the rural area on the benefits of being vaccinated, he observed. 

Dr Tetso speaking on the trend on COVID-19 said, “The state has already lost the people of the most productive age group which is 30-60 years during the first and second wave and Wokha district alone has lost 70 persons during first wave and nearly 370 lost their life during the last wave.”

Therefore, Dr Tetso observed, the trend shows that challenges lie ahead for the district to fight against the pandemic and stressed on the need to increase its performance on testing and vaccination so that all the targeted age group get vaccinated.

Deputy CMO, Wokha Dr Zuben Kikon, presented status report on COVID-19 scenario in the District. The meeting was chaired by Chairman DTF & DC Orenthung Lotha. The meeting was attended by the members of DTF, Chairman Lotha Hoho and representative from Lotha Baptist Churches Association (LBCA) and Lotha Catholic Churches Association.

Jalukie: State level monitoring team on COVID-19 led by Additional Secretary, Power, Mohammad A Shihab, IAS along with Dy Director H&FW, Dr Thomas visited Jalukie sub-division on August 21. 

A meeting was convened with SDTF members, FBOs and CSOs at ADC office Jalukie under the chairmanship of ADC Jalukie-cum-SDTF Chairman, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS, a DIPR report stated. 

Presiding the meeting, ADC Jalukie briefed the officials on the preparedness of the district in combating against the virus where he lamented over the low progress of vaccination drive in the district. A brief report on current COVID-19 status, available resources, testing and vaccination status were highlighted by Dy CMO, Dr Lanuakum Jamir and UIP/RCH, Dr Kiholi.

In his address Shihab said, “We have already witnessed two waves of COVID-19 and third wave is expected to hit anytime,” and encouraged the gathering to come as one to support the Medical Department to meet the daily requirements on how to combat the pandemic. Stating that the Government is very much concerned about vaccination coverage, he appealed for support from all in order to ensure vaccination of eligible beneficiaries at the sub-divisional level.

Earlier, the monitoring team held interaction with Ahthibung Sub-Divisional Task Force/Block Task Force at SDO (C) Office, Ahthibung and visited PHC Ahthibung, COVID Hospital Jalukie, CCC Jalukie and PHC Heningkunglwa.

Longleng: State level monitoring team on COVID-19 led by K Libanthung Lotha, IAS commissioner & Secretary, Geology & Mining along with Lhovizotuo Belho, Joint Director H&FW visited Longleng. A review meeting with DTF Longleng was at DCs conference hall Longleng on August 23 which was chaired by M Shayung Phom, NCS, Deputy Commissioner & Chairmen DTF Longleng.

Addressing the meeting, Libanthung emphasized on the importance of the role played by the NGOs of the district and on the reinforcement and preparedness of the DTF for the looming COVID-19 third waves. He stressed on the need for attaining 100% district vaccination and increase of COVID-19 testing. 

D Robin ADC Longleng, H Shamthai representative from Phomla Hoichem, Tialemba, Executive Secretary PBCA, Dr Obangjungla CMO Longleng and Dr S Imnameren, DPO (RHC & UIP), Longleng also spoke during the meeting. 

Dr Imnameren informed the house of the 100% vaccination status acquired by six villages namely Amosen, Chingong, Mongkhong, Shamshangching, Tangha and Yongnyah and one Department, DEF Longleng. He also highlighted the strategies applied by the Medical department in collaboration with the Churches such as vaccination drive in all villages on Sundays, encouraging various leaders to be the forerunner for COVID-19 vaccine and tasting drive.

The team along with DTF also visited COVID Hospital and District Hospital Longleng and interacted with Medical officers led by MS & CMO followed by visit to Namching Health and Wellness Center. Earlier, the team visited CHC Yachem and Yaongyimchen villages and interacted with Village Task Force.
