Nagaland inaugurates modern mechanical training centre

MMWTC to equip youth with heavy machinery skills, licenses

Chümoukedima, September 25 (MExN): Modern Mechanical Workshop cum Training Centre (MMWTC) was inaugurated by Minister of Housing & Mechanical Engineering, P Bashangmonba Chang at Shokhuvi, Chümoukedima on September 25.

Addressing the gathering, he stated that with the inauguration of a dedicated facility to provide individuals with focused skills and knowledge development in the operation and maintenance of heavy vehicles and machinery, it will conform to the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) approved curriculum; and incorporate simulated learning to ensure comprehensive skill development, stated a DIPR report. 

He informed that the training programme will be fully funded by the Government of Nagaland under the Nagaland Skill Mission and IDAN will help facilitate concessional loans to selected meritorious trainees under CMMFI. 

The training facility has become a need of the hour, as stated by the Union Transport Minister citing a World Bank report in Lok Sabha on April 3, 2025. He mentioned that India has a shortage of 22 lakh skilled drivers, leading to many accidents and deaths.

He stated that the vision of MMWTC is to create a highly skilled workforce by providing accessible and market-relevant training that empowers individuals to achieve sustainable livelihoods and contribute to economic growth. Its mission is to deliver quality training programs aligned with industry demands, fostering employability and entrepreneurship opportunities.

MMWTC will be manned by expert department officers specially trained by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to impart quality training on Operation & Maintenance of heavy vehicles and machinery. It will also have guest speakers and trainers from relevant companies to share insights and experience and IDAN (Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland) during verbal interactions has desired to collaborate with the department by bringing in Training Partners and Resources so that the trainees can take the privilege of various government schemes. 

On successful completion of training, the Transport department will assist the trainees in acquiring Heavy Construction Equipment (HCE) Driving License, required in India to operate heavy machinery like Excavator, Backhoe Loader, Road Roller etc, he added.

In conclusion, he encouraged unemployed youths to take this excellent opportunity at MMWTC to learn and enhance their skills through these training courses. This would help boost their credentials while seeking jobs in various sectors and also in their entrepreneurial endeavours.

Administrator, MMWTC, Er Alemtoshi Imsong, in his brief note on MMWTC highlighted that Nagaland Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Mission (NSEDM) in collaboration with MMWTC will provide the training free of cost. Hostel Accommodation for 45 students (Beds with lockers). Training will be on five categories- Simulator training which will be on Excavator, Backhoe Loader, Dumper/Tipper Truck. On Field Practical Training-Static Road Roller, Vibratory Road Roller, Pick Up, Excavator, Backhoe Loader, Dumper/Tipper Truck. On the Mechanic category-Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechanical.
