
Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): 12 lakh Bank employees (staff and officers) are to go on one day nationwide strike on August 5, 2011. The strike is held in demand of control of price rise, compassionate appointment scheme, non privatization of nationalized banks, no reduction of government stake in public sector banks, no merger of banks, no outsourcing, revive BSRBs recruitment of staff in public sector banks, implement five day banking, scrap Khandewal Committee recommendations, among others.
A press note issued by A. Lolly Moses, general secretary, United Forum of Bank Union, Nagaland stated that bank employees are to take part in the strike and support wholeheartedly. Employees also express their regret for the inconveniences cause to its customers, but requested to support the strike to wipe out the ill policy of Central Government towards its employees. A separate note issued by Sudip Sen, general secretary, Dimapur Bank and Insurance, Co-ordination Committee also stated that the strike has been called by all public sector banks, private sector banks, co-operative banks and regional rural banks, and added that inconveniences caused to esteemed customers are deeply regretted.
