
Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The cumulative tally of COVID-19 infections in Nagaland rose to 31,611 with the confirmation of 40 new cases on Sunday. The new cases were detected among 525 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours returning a daily positivity rate of 7.62 percent. Tuensang district reported the highest number of cases with 24, followed by Longleng with 6, Kohima (5), Dimapur (3), and one each in Tuensang and Wokha.
According to the daily health bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, 28 of the new cases were detected among traced contacts, 6 from front line workers, and 6 from self tests and random tests.
On the other hand a total of 28 patients who had previously tested positive for the virus, recuperated on Sunday taking the tally of recoveries to 29,667. The recoveries were reported from Kohima (14), Tuensang (6), Dimapur (5), Phek (2), and Mokokchung (1).
No fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours and the state’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 659, excluding 15 other deaths that were categorised as ‘Non COVID deaths (with COVID positivity)’ in the bulletin. With this, the state’s active case tally is at 248. In terms of severity of cases, 176 of the active cases are said to be asymptomatic, 50 are mild symptomatic and 6 are ‘moderate on oxygen’ according to the IDSP. Among those with severe symptoms, 10 are on oxygen support, 6 in the ICU (5 on ventilator).
