Kohima, February 26 (MExN): Retirement programme in honour of outgoing officers IGP & Director, I Meyionen and Sr SP, L Temsunungsang was held at the premises of Nagaland Lokayukta Kohima on February 26.

According to a DIPR report, Nagaland Upa-Lokayukta, Mayang Lima in his short speech said the retiring officers have come up from certain rank to the highest level through dedication, hard work and sheer determination. Lauding the retiring officers for rendering their best service to the organisation he said that the legacy and inspiration they are leaving behind will be remembered and will guide the officers and staffs of the department in days to come.

I Meyionen delivering his farewell message remarked that in his entire 35 years service career he was never hospitalised nor availed a single penny on medical reimbursement. He stated that his formative years career was full of enthusiasm and commitment not realising that in the system all decisions are taken at the higher level and many a times ending with disappointments. He added that landing up in such a department is not an enviable job unless one is fully committed. He went on to say that unlike other developmental departments , the officers in this department during their lines of duty are most likely to come into conflict with other departments because of the nature of the work.

He also cautioned the officers that there are high chances of being subjective in their approach during investigations rather than being objective  and therefore  a balance  approach is require to achieve  the  desired results while performing one’s duty. He stated that as long a power is in the hand of few corruption is here to stay adding that unless there is a political will to fight corruption there will be no accountability, transparency, delegation and decentralisation of responsibility in the system . He therefore, encouraged the officers not to lose hope but fight relentlessly the menace of corruption in our society.

He further said the responsibility of fighting corruption is in the shoulder of the officers of the department and encouraged all to never lose sight of the assigned duties and responsibilities and to always function as a team. He also acknowledged the retired seniors officers for their immense contributions in moulding his career.

Outgoing officer, Temsunungsang also speaking at the program said he was overwhelmed by the love and support showered on him and thanked all for it. He also lauded the officers and staffs for their continued support and cooperation during his entire career. He requested the officers in the investigation wing to prioritise and focus while discharging their duties. He also encouraged the officers to keep the love of God, family, work and to cherish others and one self. In conclusion he wished the officers and the department success in all future endeavours.

Short speeches were also delivered by Secretary Kuko Mero, Public Prosecutor Vikhozo Vitsu and Oponlumi Humtsoe. Sr SP T Holtoh chaired the program and also highlighted in brief the profile and achievements of the outstanding officers.
