DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): Following allegations made by the Naga People’s Front (NPF) accusing the PDA government of “negligence” in development activities, the Nagaland Lokayukta, Justice Uma Nath Singh has asked the NPF to file affidavits substantiating the allegations of mis-governance and corruption made in the latter’s press statement.
It further asked media houses who published the NPF’s statement to file “specific instances of corruption and mis-governance.”
A press release from the Nagaland Lokayukta also asked the Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland to file an affidavit on the issues raised; while simultaneously directing the Nagaland PWD (NH) through theChief Engineer to file an affidavit on the worsening condition of the Dimapur-Kohima Road.
Says Nagaland Lokayukta ‘need drastic reforms’ to meet people’s expectation
Meanwhile, the Nagaland Lokayukta stated that “instead of filing complaints in accordance with regulation of the Nagaland Lokayukta, people are playing to the gallery.”
“After taking over of the charge by the Nagaland Lokayukta, so far only 9 complaints have been filed and unless the people of Nagaland come forward with their grievance and file complaints after complying with procedural requirements, the organisation would be helpless,” it stated.
It was further pointed out that the Lokayukta needs to be well equipped to deal with allegations of misgovemance and corruption.
“The office establishment of Lokayukta and the Nagaland Lokayukta Police Organisation need drastic reforms and serious relook to come up to the expectation of people of Nagaland and other stakeholders,” it was added.
Justice Uma Nath Singh pointed out that the Nagaland Lokayukta is in urgent need of two more Upa-Lokayukta with clean records and serious aptitude for the job.
“Even the letters sent from the organisation to the State Government remain pending for months with no response in some cases,” it was revealed, stating that the organisation has already raised demand for regional offices at Dimapur and Mokokchung.
