Nagaland LRD staff completes Permaculture design course

Dimapur, November 24 (MExN): Six day training on Permaculture Design Course which began on November 18 at Resource Centre, Ruzaphema organized by Land Resources Department concluded on November 23.


Altogether 24 officers and staff of the Department were trained by resource persons who had earlier undergone similar training outside the state, informed Media cell, Land Resources Department, Nagaland. 


During the course of the training, the trainees were introduced to the history, ethics and principle of Permaculture. They were also trained on the various methods of Permaculture design such as sector analysis and zoning for designing farm, keyholes kitchen garden, polyculture and guilds,


Livestock management, water and soil management, waste management, farm infrastructure, food forest management etc were some other aspects imparted during the course.


During the closing programme held on November 23, Director of LRD, T Renben Lotha gave away training completion certificates to the 24 trainees. In his address, Renben said he was fully convinced that the objective of the training has been achieved in totality and urged them to pass on the knowledge to others. “We have successfully imparted training to people who care for people who in turn will also share the same to others following the core ethics of care for earth, care for people and fair share working in tune with the ecosystem,” Renben said.


He said sustainability in Permaculture aspect has to address the need of present generation without compromising the needs of the future generation. Renben also expounded on the need to address the subject of sustainability in the right perspective at the right time.


He lauded the trainees on successful completion of Permaculture design course and said their journey has just begun. Encouraging them to take the lessons forward, Renben told them to address the gaps and said “you have become assets for the state, people need you so also the environment needs you for its protection.”


Earlier, Dr. Sahiyangba Ao presented briefing about the course while State Programme Coordinator, SLNA, Inatoli Chishi and Deputy Director, LRD, Puvil also exhorted the gathering.
