Nagaland MP calls for upgrade of Kohima railway ticketing facility

Nagaland's lone Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir on August 27 visited the Railway Ticket Counter at NST station in Kohima and called for immediate upgradation of the facility and an increase in the state's railway reservation quota. 

Stating that railway services were important for Nagaland, Jamir said passengers should not face difficulties in making reservations or accessing related facilities. He said the equipment at the Kohima ticket counter needed to be upgraded and urged the Railway Ministry to look into the matter immediately.

Kohima, being the state capital with a substantial number of rail passengers and serving as a transit centre, should have adequate facilities, he said, adding that he would take up the matter with the ministry and railway authorities.

Jamir said the ticket booking counter was functioning properly but required upgraded facilities and more reservation quota for passengers from Nagaland.

“We have very less quotas, or it's just nominal only. So we also need to increase our reservation quota,” he said, urging the Railway Ministry to provide sufficient reservation quota for the state.

The MP said he would meet railway authorities in Dimapur on August 28 and pursue improvement of railway services in Nagaland.
“If the action is not taken, then, by winter session, I will take up in the Parliament also,” he said.

On revenue generation, Jamir said Nagaland was doing well and expressed confidence that the Centre would be willing to provide better facilities to the state to help generate more revenue.
