BAC meeting on July 20
KOHIMA, JULY 16 (MExN): A meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has been called on July 20 at 11:00am in the committee room of the Assembly Secretariat. The meeting has been called by Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) who is also the Chairman of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). All members of the BAC have been asked to attend the meeting as scheduled.
GPRN/NSCN condoles
DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): The GPRN/NSCN has expressed grief at the demise of Lieutenant Colonel Sating Lainung, A/No. 9116, S/o Late Mon Lainung of Ponui village, Lainung Region, who passed away after a prolonged illness on July 14. A press release from the MIP of the GPRN/NSCN said that Lainung who enrolled into the Naga Army in February, 1994 “was one of the most valiant and dedicated soldier with elegant integrity who selflessly served and sacrificed for the cause of the Naga nation till his death.” “His service towards the nation will be ever cherished and remembered in the history of the Naga people,” it added. The GPRN/NSCN extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Improve telecom network within three days: CCSU
TUENSANG, JULY 16 (MExN): The Confederation of Chang Students' Union (CCSU) has given telecom service providers in Tuensang district 3 days to ensure stable and satisfactory network connection in the district. The CCSU held a meeting the service providers and stressed on the urgent need for stable network connection, especially with students appearing online exams. During the meeting, the CCSU also directed a cease on the issuing and selling of SIM cards within Tuensang district with effect from July 16 till further notice. It meanwhile assigned the district telecom in-charge to provide the details of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) capacity, Tower Mapping and total users in Tuensang District within three days.
Late Rev K Lasuh mourned
DIMAPUR, JULY 16 (MExN): Dr Vekusa Nienu, retired professor from the University of California, USA has mourned the demise of Rev. K. Lasuh. “The death of Rev. Lasuh is not just a personal loss to his dear ones and people close to him. It also will leave a particularly huge void in the ranks among the Chakhesang Church leadership. He was a truly humbled man, a man of honesty and integrity, very few leaders can claim,” a press release from Dr Nienu said. “My wife joins me in sending our sincere condolences to his wife, Mary and their children,” it added.
NVCO pulls up courier services
Kohima, July 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has asked courier services in the State to deliver packages to the homes of their customers. A press release from the NVCO said that it has received many complaints with regard to deficiency in courier services in the State. It cautioned these services to fulfill their duty, failing which the forum would approach the appropriate authority for cancellation of licenses. Meanwhile, it informed that complaints have also been received about price rise of several commodities—from vegetables, groceries and meat to building materials, fuel etc.” As an example, the NVCO said that pork is now being sold for Rs.1200 for three kilograms and is being openly sold in “all colonies.” It further informed that customers now cannot buy less than three kilos. “The biggest concern is for the common people and the weaker sections,” the NVCO said, and asked the government to initiate appropriate measures.
Security forces apprehend NSCN (K-YA) cadre
KOHIMA, JULY 16 (MExN): Security forces apprehended a cadre of the NSCN (K-YA) near Perizie Colony, Kohima on July 14. A press release from the PIB, Defense Wing informed that the troops also recovered one Point 22mm Pistol, five rounds of Point 22mm live ammunition, extortion pad and extortion slips from the possession of the individual. The apprehended person along with recovered items has been handed over to North Police Station, Kohima for further investigations, the press release added.
