ZPO welcomes delimitation in Nagaland
Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): The Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland on June 14 stated that the ‘overdue’ delimitation in Nagaland “is in occurrence to straighten the discrepancy of democratic representation.” It stated that disproportionate distribution of Assembly Constituencies in the state is everybody’s knowledge. In its press statement on Sunday, the Organisation also hoped that the ‘misconception’ of delimitation being a roadblock to the finalization of solution to Indo-Naga political issue will be put to rest when “the people get to know the immense distinction between the two.” “The ZPO desires that the Delimitation Commission delivers justice to the citizens of Nagaland,” it said.
Former MLA Sualemba passes
away; Speaker, Ex-PAN condoles
Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): Former MLA Er Sualemba, also known as N S Alemba, passed away on June 14. He was 87. His funeral was held at his native village in Changtongya. Mourning his demise, Nagaland State Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, said that late Sualemba was a dynamic and dedicated man who worked sincerely for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and the people of Nagaland. His death has caused a great loss to the Nagas in general and the Ao community in particular and the void created by him will be difficult to fill, he added. “I, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Members of the Thirteenth Nagaland Legislative Assembly, convey our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Sualemba, their children and family members. May the Almighty God grant solace and comfort, at this hour of sorrow to the bereaved family,” he said in his message. Meanwhile, the Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) expressed shock at the demise of Er Sualemba who represented 22 Arkakong A/C from 1993-1998. Er Sualemba served as EE, Roads & bridges before entering into active politics. He had served as member of Indian Road Congress and also as Joint Secretary, Assam Board of Engineering Association, the Ex-PAN stated. The Association conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for his soul rest in peace.
Masjids in Dimapur and Kohima to remain closed till June 30
Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): The Muslim community in Dimapur and Kohima has decided to continue with the closure of all Masjids in the two districts till June 30. According to a press release from MCD working president A Rahman, the decision was taken in a meeting convened by the Muslim Council Dimapur on June 14, which was attended by all the nine Jama Masjids and few Panjagana Masjids and in consultation with the Kohima Jama Masjid. After June 30, another meeting will be convened to discuss further measures depending on the condition of the pandemic, he informed. The meeting extended gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for partial modification of May 4 order and making ways for reopening of prayer houses by an order dated June 10 with certain riders. Though the tough conditions for opening the prayer houses may be followed but the meeting decided to continue with the closure for the larger interest of the society and also to lend helping hand to the Government to fight the pandemic, the release added. The meeting further advised all Masjid Committees to disinfect their Masjid premises and also make necessary changes as per the guidelines and to prepare for the reopening in the near future.
Ahthibung QC welcomes returnees
Dimapur, June 14 (MExN): Returnees have started arriving at the Quarantine Facility Centre Ahthibung. With the latest arrival of a husband and wife from Maharashtra on June 13, the tally of returnees at the centre till date is 8, and a batch of 16 is scheduled to arrive on June 14, Chungminthang Singson Member Secretary, Quarantine Facility Centre Ahthibung informed in a press release on Sunday. Meanwhile, the husband-wife duo were each presented with the welcome gift package , during a short briefing on Sunday, held at the Centre's premises, by the OC Ahthibung PS, Akum Nungsang. The briefing and presentation of gift packs was attended by SDO(Civil) Ahthibung, Rupfoukutuo Noudi, GBs and officials from Health and Police Department. The Management Board thanked the SDO(Civil) and other line departments for the guidance and support being rendered towards the management of the Facility Centre, till date, and all well-wishers and sympathisers for their contributions. 50 welcome gift packages were donated by Tonga Hangsing, Manager, QFCA, and family, and Chongpi Singson, A/T GHS Ahthibung and family. Each gift package contains daily essential items, along with a pocket size Bible, pen and notepad. The press statement added that, a woman currently at the quarantine centre is pregnant, and due for delivery very soon.
