Heavy vehicles restriction on NH-2 from May 18
Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, has issued an order suspending the movement of heavy vehicles with 10 wheels and above along the Kohima–Mao section of National Highway-2 due to safety concerns over weak bridges in the area. According to the order issued on May 12, the decision was taken following official communications received from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Regional Office, Kohima, and NHIDCL PMU-Jakhama regarding the condition of several bridges along the highway stretch. The order stated that structural assessments found bridges located at Chainages Ch. 194+700, Ch. 198+680, Ch. 200+020, and Ch. 210+100 to be structurally weak and posing a potential public safety hazard. In view of the risks involved and to prevent further structural damage, the order stated that the restriction on heavy vehicles will come into effect from May 18 and remain in force until further notice. It further warned that violators would face prosecution under relevant sections of the law.
Phek DC issues traffic advisory
Phek, May 15 (MExN): The office of the Phek deputy commissioner informed all concerned that, in view of the hill excavation works at Ch.101+060 to Ch.101+250 (in between Losatephe and Lanezho Village) under Package-V of Kohima-Jessami Road, as a precautionary measure for the safety of the general public, vehicular movement for all type of vehicles along the aforementioned stretch will be completely restricted from May 18 to 31. During the restriction period, an alternate route via Pfutsero-Porba-Sakraba-Khomi-Phek Village-Lanezho and vice versa may be utilized. The Construction Company, KS-PIRPL (JV) have been directed to ensure that all excavation works are completed within the stipulated period of time. Henceforth, no further extension for restriction of traffic movement will be entertained, according to a notice issued by DC Rhosietho Nguori. This is issued for strict compliance.
NFHRCC calls for meeting on May 19
DIMAPUR, MAY 15 (MExN): The NFHRCC has convened a joint meeting of all the 15 Nagaland Apex Tribal Hohos at the NFHRCC base office in Kher Mahal, Dimapur at 11:00. A press release from the NFHRCC media cell meanwhile urged the NPWD (R&B) that while waiting for any mega project from the MoRTH to be officially approved, the proposed 2nd phase work based on the administrative approval accorded since 2024 be issued transparently at the earliest through an open tender process without any bias or favouritism.
Mkg DC issues orders to ensure normal fuel supply
Mokokchung, May 15 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has issued a set of directives for all retail fuel outlets in the district to ensure uninterrupted availability and equitable distribution of fuel supplies. According to an order issued on May 15, all fuel stations operating in the district have been directed to maintain a minimum reserve stock of 2,000 litres of diesel and 1,500 litres of petrol at all times. The order stated that the reserve stock is intended to meet emergency requirements and maintain stability in daily fuel supply. The district administration also warned against hoarding and illegal diversion of fuel stocks. It stated that strict action would be initiated under relevant sections of the Prevention of Blackmarketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act, 1980, against any fuel station or individual found indulging in such activities. “All available stock must be dispensed to consumers in a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory manner,” the order stated.
Managers of all retail outlets have further been directed to maintain updated stock registers and submit daily stock reports to the district administration whenever required. The administration also advised the public not to engage in panic buying or unnecessary stockpiling of fuel, stating that adequate fuel stock remains available within the district.
VYO condemns alleged hit-and-run killing
Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The Viswema Youth Organisation (VYO) has condemned what it described as the “brutal and unfortunate homicide” of one of its bona fide members in an alleged hit-and-run incident at NH-2, Jakhama on May 13 at around 7:30 am.
In a press release, the organisation appreciated the prompt response of the Kohima Police and other law enforcement agencies in apprehending the suspects allegedly involved in the incident.
The VYO, however, placed several demands before the authorities, including disclosure of the identities of the accused persons “in accordance with due legal procedure,” a “thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation,” and stringent punishment under relevant legal provisions without “undue leniency” during judicial proceedings.
The organisation further cautioned that failure to ensure timely and satisfactory action in the matter “may compel the Organisation to initiate actions as deemed necessary.”
Unidentified body recovered in Dimapur railway siding area
Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): The Dimapur Police has informed that an unidentified male body was recovered from the siding area of NF Railway Dimapur on May 14.
According to a press note issued by the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, telephonic information was received from the Station Manager, NF Railway Dimapur, at around 4:02 pm regarding the body of an unknown non-Naga male, estimated to be around 45–50 years old, lying in the area.
Police conducted an inquest over the body and stated that the suspected cause of death was starvation or illness. After completion of legal formalities, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination and identification.
The deceased was described as wearing a white shirt and blue jeans pant.
