KOHIMA, November 3 (MExN): The Changpang Block VDB Secretaries’ Association in Nagaland's Wokha district has condemned the alleged abduction of a Village Development Board (VDB) Secretary from Thonokyu village. In a press release, the Association stated that “unidentified miscreants” threatened the Village Council Chairman and abducted the VDB Secretary on the night of October 30. The Association labelled the incident as an “unlawful act and criminality” that challenges village authority and provokes peace and harmony in the state. It emphasised that Village Councils and VDBs are local governing bodies instituted by the state government, and intimidating their functionaries is a “direct provocation” to the government itself. The Association has appealed to the state government and the Rural Development Department to act swiftly to apprehend the culprits and secure the victim's release. It further implored citizens to condemn the “heinous crime” and called on the abductors to release the VDB Secretary unconditionally, stating that such “villainy has no place in a civilized society.”

‘No Phom colony,’ clarifies Signal Angami Village Council
Dimapur, November 3 (MExN): The Signal Angami Village Council has issued a public clarification stating that it prohibits the creation or use of names like “Colony,” “Ward,” or “Block” within its jurisdiction.
The council said the move was necessitated as it has come across instances of certain individuals, unions, and organisations repeatedly creating “confusion and misunderstanding” among the public by using the term “colony” despite an existing resolution against it.
In a press release, the council cited its resolution No. SAVC/RESO/07-2020-25/01, dated February 4, 2023, and outlined the following points for the public:
The council “does not recognise nor acknowledge” any such names as Colony, Ward, or Block within the village jurisdiction, it stated.
The village is officially segmented only into three authorised sectors: Sector 'A', 'B', and 'C' which is authorized by the village council.
Specifically, it clarified that “there is no such colony as Phom Colony” within the Signal Angami Village jurisdiction.
The council has refrained the general public from using any name other than “Signal Angami Village” for the area.
It further cautioned that any individual, union, or organisation found again creating confusion by using unauthorised names will be “held responsible,” and the council will “act as deem fit” againstem.
