NAGALAND OBSERVES TEACHERS DAY

Joining the rest of the country, Nagaland today observed Teachers’ Day and saluted the teachers for their commendable contribution in building the society.
In the state level function held here, minister for school education & SCERT Nyeiwang Konyak conferred roll of state award to 50 teachers from across the state and later declared September 6 as holiday for all the schools across the state in honor and respect for the teachers.
Students from various educational institutions honored the teachers with gifts and later entertained them with songs, act play etc.  
 “Teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions, mediocre teacher teaches, teacher explains, superior teacher demonstrates, great teacher inspires,” said school education minister while speaking at the state level teachers day celebration at the multipurpose hall of GHSS Kohima. The minister paid rich tribute and gratitude to the teachers stating that the gratefulness and respect ‘we’ have for the teachers should not only for one day but should continue to acknowledge them in years to come.
Asserting education as a continuous pursuit of excellence where individuals, organizations, civilizations and nations are known to have continuously striven towards the path of excellence he said the concept of excellence is not unique to any individual or institution, “Any person or organization which endeavors to bring quality in his/her work and life are in the pursuit of Excellence, I believe you and everyone are in pursuit of this excellence,” said Konyak.
He acknowledged the schools for actively participating in various competitions conducted under the department of school education. Subscribing that teachers are the real history maker, a nation builder, Konyak said that teachers are the most honorable group of people that one comes across in life who are not only a selfless giver but also mentors of life. He said the teachers impart not just knowledge but also the wisdom to become good and responsible citizens.
Maintaining that education department is one of the biggest departments in the state that touches almost all the families at one time or the other, he said the department is going through a difficult time, however the department is striving to tide the problem with the support of the government and the people adding that “We need to appreciate the vastness of the department to understand the problems it faces”. With the rapid expansion of modern technological advancements, Konyak said the role of a teacher has become complicated and manifold, thereby urged the teachers to master with the modern tools and use it for effective dissemination of knowledge.
The revamping and restructuring of the department of school education has been done as an incentive to promote quality and value education and to strengthen the implementation and monitoring of various programmes under the department, he added.
Konyak maintained that teachers has to be in the forefront of this revolution, and appealed the teachers to realize that they have greater responsibility in moulding and guiding the young children to the best possible directions and also urged to take up challenges ahead and make sacrifices wherever required like a true teachers so that society and country can prosper.
Commissioner & Secretary, School education, T. Imkonglemba IAS in his welcome note applauded the teachers for their efforts stating that teachers are the creator of good leaders, sportsman and good citizen.
The commissioner & Secretary also appealed to all types of teachers, be it government, private or tutors to re-dedicate themselves to mould for the betterment of the society. Earlier the compere, Toto Nurumi read out the teachers’ day message received from President of India Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Governor Nagaland, Nikhil Kumar and Chief Minister Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio. The programme was marked by short play, folk songs, quartet and songs presented by different schools. Mezhur Higher secondary school Kohima honored the teachers with gifts. Director School Education, N. Khevito Sema delivered vote of thanks.

‘Teachers need to be appreciated’

Along with the rest of the country, Kiphire district today celebrated Teacher’s Day with Y. Shahoto Yim, DIS as chief guest with thousands of students at the public ground.
In his address as chief guest Sahato Yim said that teachers should be the best mind of the country and also remembered Dr S. Radhakhrisnha in whose birthday teacher’s day is being held. He also called upon the teaching community to be a role model for student, in shaping the future of the children and added that teachers are the backbone of nation building and cannot imagine without teachers. He also said that teachers also needed to be appreciated for their dedicated service.
Apise of Agape school while delivering speech on behalf of the students said, “The dedication service and the selfless sacrifice the teachers rendered speaks volume for the love they have for the students and assure prayers.” Boonam Singh Teacher from JNV who spoke on behalf of teaching community called upon the teachers to know one’s role so that the students learn from them during their student life.
Trinity School, El-Beth school, Holy Cross School and GHS Yangphi presented song, dance and Teakwondo show. All together 15 teachers were awarded with district teachers award and Kiphire District Private Schools Association also presented award to students for taking part in June 5th World Environment day. The programme was chaired by Sepikyu and Asela of LHSSK.

‘Govt can not afford to have bogus or unqualified teachers’

Putting across the strong message ‘quality education the need of the hour’ minister for Health and Family Welfare, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu urged the teachers to re-introspect and dedicate themselves to build a healthy society. He was speaking at the common Teacher’s Day organized by the Chakhesang Students Union (CSU) at Phek Town local ground on Monday.
The minister was of the strong opinion that basic foundation for a strong and vibrant state, rest on good institutions, colleges and universities for quality human resource development to take form. The pillar for which are the teachers. “If our state is to have a future, we need qualified, sincere, dedicated and committed teachers,” he pointed out.
He affirmed that the government of the day could not afford to have bogus or unqualified teachers at any cost and that the state government has been doing everything to identify screen out all bogus, unqualified and false certificate holding teachers and terminate their services. He has sought the support of all genuine including those adhoc teachers waiting for regularization to extend their cooperation to eradicate the menace of ‘bogus’. The minister also urged all teachers to be role model for their students and to set exemplary examples for their wards to ameliorate. Nullifying the apprehension of the adhoc teachers in their fight for regularization, the minister informed that the government following scrutinization would regularize all genuine adhoc teachers.
He also congratulated SP Raja, Math teacher of Government Higher Secondary School, Phek Town for achieving the 25 year hallmark in the teaching profession. Earlier, the minister also gave away division and district level commendation certificates to 13 teachers for their dedicated and sincere serv ices.
Also exhorting the teachers, Deputy Commissioner, Mikha Lomi urged the teachers to rededicate and continue extending their best service and impart quality education. The minister was accompanied by host of government officials, public leaders and elders. Altogether, thousands of students from 10 schools in Phek Town paid their respects to their teachers with bouquets, special tunes and dances on the occasion of ‘Teachers Day’ celebration.

Governor, CM acknowledge teachers contribution

Both the state’s Governor Nikhil Kumar and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio acknowledged the contribution of teachers and extended best wishes on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, which was celebrated across the state today. “It is a very special day when we dedicate ourselves to our teachers in recognition of the great national service that they are performing,” Governor said in his message which was read out at the state level teachers’ day celebration in Kohima.
Kumar said the teachers not only teach and impart knowledge but guide and mould young minds, hone their sills and instill in them a strong moral fibre to prepare them as responsible and conscientious citizens. “They deserve our respect. Our young generation looks up to them for learning and character building which is why it venerates them next only to their parents,” Kumar said.
Governor offered them his warm greetings, acknowledged their inestimable contribution to nation building and offered them his best wishes for success in the pursuit of their noble endeavour.
Saying that teachers occupying a coveted position as the ‘ movers and shaker’ of humanity, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said teachers must continue to uphold this noble profession by maintaining the highest standards of personal integrity and honesty.
“Teachers should be mindful of the huge influence they have on their students, even beyond the class-rooms to many aspects of the personal lives of their students,” Rio said in his message.
With such a great responsibility, Rio said, teachers should strive to be impeccable role- models for their students, and prepare and mould them to help achieve our dreams of a better world.
Chief Minister also congratulated all the teachers for having chosen this most dignified profession and prayed that God will bless them with the strength to remain steadfast and committed to their profession and in upholding value oriented education to our future generation.

‘What we have today is the legacy & contribution of our teachers’

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): Addressing the Teachers’ Day celebration at Government High School Sarbura, Kashiram on Monday, editor of Tir Yimyim, K. Temjen Jamir said that the legacy and contribution of the teachers was visible in what the society has today and what a person is. “What you teach is not a one-day or an annual affair but lifelong. It carries on throughout our life and therefore it becomes a legacy,” the chief guest said.
As builders of a nation, Temjen said, the role of a teacher was not easy as what they teach would shape and determine the future of a citizen whose contribution eventually will be calculated in the making of a nation. As such, teachers should expand their duties and responsibilities beyond the classroom in imparting quality education and imbibe in a person with moral lessons, teaching them skills for a future livelihood etc, Temjen said. Stating that teaching and learning never has an end, he said a teacher only retires from the service of the government but continues to serve the community. Temjen also pointed out that teaching was not the job of a teacher alone but all citizens has a responsibility and gets involved in the process of imparting education. Talking about the existence of VECs and various other governmental and non-governmental bodies empowered to make decisions and act in the interest of educating a child, he said this was how people other than teachers also get involved in the process of education.
Temjen put across the general view that government schools were not doing well in spite of the numerous facilities and expectations from the public and said the failures must be admitted though there may be reasons. However, the chief guest expressed gladness that GHS Sarbura was doing well despite such opinion. He urged the teachers to rededicate themselves in their service as moulders of the society. Temjen further briefly spoke about the life of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan in whose name the Teachers’ Day was being celebrated in the country. GHS Sarbura head teacher, K. Jeliangga also spoke at the programme. Students presented special songs, traditional parade and other entertainment programmes. 

Pangnyu calls to give respect to teachers

Joining with the rest of the Nation and our State, Dimapur District celebrated common Teachers Day at Town hall on September 5 with Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development & REPA, Pangnyu Phom as the chief guest. Pangnyu in his speech said, Teachers mould the lives that they influence, lessons learned from teachers remain with their students throughout life, teachers break down barriers and reach into the souls of the students, because of their untiring, selfless sacrifice and contribution in moulding and building the nation, we need to rise up to the occasion and pay respect and tribute to our teachers who rightly deserved our admiration and appreciation and he further salute the teachers.
Pangyu said, “Education holds the key to Nagaland for continuing growth and prosperity while the Right to Education for all is largely acknowledged; we still need to strive towards the ideal of universal access to quality education.” Stating that there is a gradual decline in quality of education as we move from cities to towns to rural areas and the student-teachers’ ratio of 30:1 in developed countries is yet to be achieved in India, he said that he is stressing on this issue because this is the reality today in Nagaland, he therefore, called upon everyone to come together and work out strategies to have a cohesive direction for a common goal, which is the education of children. He added that, in spite of so many shortfalls, it is heartening to see teachers working hard and walking extra miles to shape the young minds of our society. Pangnyu said, the role of schools and teachers are becoming manifold every day, and the world will continue to depend more and more, and look up to school and teachers to prepare their children for the kind of future that we all await a future filled with hope and fulfillment. He said that teachers are the most responsible and important members of the society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the entire earth.
Parliamentary Secretary, said the declaration of Right to Education as a fundamental right which guarantees free and compulsory education for all children in the age group of 6 to 14 years is aimed to directly benefit close to one crore children who do not go to school at present. The key to its implementation is to see right to education for children not just as a right but as a duty, he said. It is the duty of the State, parents and guardians, and the community at large to ensure that all children of school- going age are in the school and get quality education. Pangnyu also appealed to the teachers for commitment and dedication to impact the minds of the children for secure society and inspirational life.
Altogether, twenty one (21) teachers of both government and private school teachers received award from lady of the chief guest Nyathei Phom during the celebration. A short speech on behalf of the awardees was delivered by Sr. G/t GHS Dhansiripar K. Ruby Humtsoe and the function is chaired by Principal Government Higher School Dimapur, R. Amongla.

Teaching community are the nation builders

Mokokchung, September 5 (DIPR): Along with the rest of the country, 50th Teachers Day celebration was held at Town Hall, Mokokchung on September 5, which was organized by Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) where I. Imkong Member, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering of teachers and students, the chief guest paid rich tributes to the teaching community describing them as the nation builders. He also hoped that we could all take a lesson from the celebration and continue to work earnestly towards establishing sincere and disciplined manner of education. The MLA went on to say that teachers have to adapt and keep themselves in tune with time and find a niche in which they can reach out to the students.  “Establishing relationship with students will give them an insight as to how they can make that essential contact to teach them” the MLA said. He also urged upon the students to give their outmost respect and dedication to the teachers as they are the lifeline to the academic sphere and growth in life and it is their duty to repay and honour them by reaching the potentials and the success they wish.
Earlier welcome address was delivered by District Education Officer, Mokokchung, Tekamayang and Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Lithrongla G. Chishi delivered the greetings. Presentation of choreography by IBZAN, felicitation by AO Students’ Conference (AKM) and presentation of Toppers Awards, Sub-divisional Awards and District awards were the highlights of the day-long programme.

Teachers Day observed at Community Education Centre School

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 5 (MExN): As a mark of gratitude and respect towards the teachers for their commitment and selfless sacrifice, the Community Educational Centre School supported by The HANS Foundation observed its Teachers’ Day celebration with Ranjan Roy, Chief Manager State Bank of India as the Chief Guest. The celebration witnessed Mr. Subonenba Longkumer, Project Director CECS honoring the teachers by giving away presentations as a token of appreciation for their dedication towards the students. The programme started with an invocation prayer from the headmaster which was followed by a special song from Izaigonbe and friends. Speech on behalf of the students was delivered by Krishna Roy, who expressed his gratitude and respect towards the teachers for their sacrifices and noble work of educating and moulding the students to be responsible and successful persons.
The chief guest in his speech expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Subonenba, Project Director and the teachers of CEC School for inviting him  to be a part of the Teachers’ day function which is dedicated in honor of Dr.S. Radhakrishnan and is celebrated all over the country. He further expressed that “a teachers’ profession is the most respectable profession” and appreciated the teachers of CEC School for their hard work and devotion. He also mentioned that one percent of the SBI’s profit is imparted for the upliftment of the society as a corporate citizen and this year they are extending their support towards the schools which are in need of infrastructure. He also appreciated the good work and the noble cause of the school in his speech and donated ten ceiling fans and two computer sets towards the school on behalf of the State Bank of India Dimapur Branch.
Another senior staff of SBI, Ramesh Hasnu delivered a short speech on the occasion expressing that teachers are the builders of the nation and acknowledged the teachers for their tireless commitment towards the students. He also urged everyone to live in understanding and also extended the support of SBI in respecting the noble cause of the teachers.
Other highlights of the programme included action songs, choreography, skit and dances. The vote of thanks was pronounced by Mr. Neiketulie Chawang, 

‘Teachers are the social intellects’

Lima Aier Higher Secondary School, Lingrijan celebrated Teacher’s day with Commissioner of Excise & Director of Prohibition, Dr Maongwati Aier was the chief guest.
He exalted the teachers who have imparted selfless and gallant services towards achieving this triumph in the filed of education. He stated that teachers are the social intellects and architects of this modern era and called upon the teaching community to be more sincere and enthusiastic in building a strong and lasting education throughout the country. Further, the school was gifted ceiling fans by Branch Manager KK Das as a beneficiary of State Bank of India, Rangapahar Branch under the theme ‘Corporate Social Responsibility.’

Teachers called to mould character of students

Mon, September 5 (DIPR): Teachers’ Day at Mon Headquarter was celebrated in a grand manner with Deputy Commissioner, Mon Angau I Thou as a Special Guest on September 5 at Local ground.
Exhorting the teachers on the occasion, the DC said that students are not only the children of the parents but they are also the children of the teachers and she called upon the teachers to unite together and continue to mould and shape the minds and characters of the students.
Inspired by various activities presented on the occasion and the huge gathering of the students inspite of sunny weather, she said all these activities show that the students are honouring their teachers. She asked the teachers to celebrate the Children’s Day in a befitting manner and honour their students in return. She also praised the private teachers and said that inspite of their low salaries they have been providing quality education to the students.   
Administering an oath to the teachers to rededicate their services with sincerity and honesty to provide holistic education to the students and to undertake the responsibility to mould and shape the students, she appealed to the teachers to uphold the pledge made in front of the students and bring up the students with integrity to make a responsible and worthy citizens of the society. She also added that education, determination and perseverance can bring changes in the society and eradicate racial discrimination. Administering of an oath by the Deputy Commissioner on Teachers’ Day is the first of its kind in the district.
The DC, Mon Angau I. Thou also gave away the District Level Teachers Award carrying a cash prize of Rs. 5000/- each along with a certificate to the 18 teachers.

Emphasis on good teacher-student relation

Aghunato, September 5 (DIPR): Along with the rest of the country, Teachers Day was observed in a grand manner at public ground Aghunato on September 5 with ADC, Aghunato, T. Orengthung Ezung, NCS gracing the occasion as the chief guest. While addressing the gather ing, he said that teachers are the most important and responsible person who plays a prominent role in the society. He further stressed on a good teacher-student relation saying that a peaceful environment should be maintained in the Institutions so that the teachers would be able to impart their knowledge whole heartedly. While encouraging the teachers, he said that a dedicated teacher always try to bring out the best in their students.
Earlier speech of significance of Teachers Day was delivered by President ESSU (Eastern Sema Students Union) Inahoto Swu. Welcome song was presented by Eden Boarding School, which was followed by presentation of Sub-Divisional Award 2011 to dedicated teachers. Other highlights of the programme included dance by GHSS, Aghunato and Mount Shepherd School Aghunato, skit by Don Bosco School Aghunato, traditional song by GPS, Aghunato, recitation of poem by GPS, PWD, Aghunato. Vote of thanks was delivered by DIS, Aghunato Kakugha S. Rotokha. The programme was chaired by SIS, Aghunato, Khezheto.

‘Be mission oriented’

Dimapur, September 5 (MExN):
The Students of Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Walford Dimapur celebrated Teacher’s Day at the school campus with Rev Moses Murry, Chairman, Bethesda Ministries as the chief guest.  In his address, to the teachers and students, the Reverend encouraged the teachers to be mission oriented and job oriented. He stated that teaching is a noble and blessed profession and asked the teachers to do everything for the glory of God. Rev Moses Murry also said the prayer of blessing for the teachers.
The function was chaired by Boinu of class 12 and invocation was led by Esther Murry, administrator and Puhe and students of yellow house did the welcome address while Zujanbeni of Class 12 spoke on the significance of Teacher’s day. Presentations to teachers, entertainments like special numbers, dances, skit and variety of items marked the celebration. Vote of thanks was extended by principal of the school and benediction was pronounced by Esther Murry, administrator. This was reported in a press release issued by BHSS, principal M K Money.
