Dimapur, February 2 (MExN): ENVIS Hub Nagaland, host organization Nagaland Pollution Control Board observed World Wetlands Day at Conference Hall, State Environment & Forestry Institute (SEFTI), Dimapur on February 2.
The theme for 2022 World Wetlands Day is ‘Wetlands Action for People and Nature’, and it highlights the importance of actions to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands for human and planetary health. It’s an appeal to invest financial, human and political capital to save the world’s wetlands from disappearing and to restore those we have degraded.
The resource person, Lansothung Lotha, Range Officer, Wokha Forest Division, Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change in his presentation highlighted different types of Wetlands and the importance and role played by the wetlands in mitigating climate change and restoration of ecosystem.
The programme was hosted by Limitsa S Sangtam, Programme Officer, ENVIS Hub Nagaland. Welcome address and Introduction to World Wetlands Day Celebration was delivered by Khriehunuo Rutsa, Information Officer, ENVIS Hub Nagaland.
A short documentary was also screened during the programme. The programme was attended by Shakiba Yimchunger IFS, Director, State Environment Forestry & Training Institute (SEFTI), Obed Bohovi Swu, Deputy Director, SEFTI, Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’, NPCB, trainees of GSDP (Bamboo Crafts), officers and staffs of Forest Department and Nagaland Pollution Control Board.
