Dimapur | October 28

Following a 2nd consecutive hike, after a two-day hiatus, petrol and diesel prices hit all-time highs on October 28 across the country, including Nagaland.

With Thursday’s hike, diesel was retailing in above Rs 100-a-litre in 9 out of 12 districts in Nagaland.

As per the IndianOil ONE app, only in Kohima, Peren (Jalukie) and Dimapur, it was retailing below Rs 100 per litre in Indian Oil Corporation Limited outlets on October 28.

In the State capital Kohima, diesel was retailing at Rs 99.98-a-litre on Thursday, just 0.2 paise away from breaching the psychological Rs 100 per litre threshold.

In Dimapur, where fuel rates are lowest in the state, a litre of diesel was going for Rs 99.18.

The prices might be higher in other outlets.

Meanwhile, petrol crossed Rs 110 a litre in Tuensang on Thursday, while in Noklak and Kiphire, it was retailing respectively at Rs 109.93 and Rs 109.80 per litre.

Petrol prices also increased to Rs 107.62 per litre in Kohima and Rs 106.62 in Dimapur on October 28.

Diesel prices have now increased for 26 of the last 34 days while petrol prices have increased on 23 of the previous 30 days, database maintained by the IANS news agency informed.

As per the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Gas, while the retail prices of fuel are fixed by the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) on the basis of 15 days rolling average price of petrol and diesel in the international market, there is also an impact by the rupee dollar exchange rate.

Several others factors determine the final retail prices including central and state taxes including cess, dealer’s commission, and freight charges.

Accordingly, fuel prices differ from state to state and region to region within a state.
