Dimapur, March 31 (MExN): The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) has once again appealed to the Nagaland Government to look into the grievances of its drivers all over the State.
A press release from the ANTA President, Vibasetuo Solo cautioned that the government’s “apathy by delaying the means of livelihood to its drivers and citizens will be dealt with a non-cooperation move by all taxi drivers throughout the State.”
It stated that the drivers, all of whom are daily wagers, “are being forced to go hungry with their families and are losing their hopes in the present government.
“The drivers are losing both ways, dying of hunger at home with the lockdown and fear of dying outside of the virus,” it stated. The ANTA reminded that it has been cooperative with the government following the lockdown directives and has stopped all members from operation.
“The silence of the government has been deafening in this times of trouble and turmoil,” the ANTA lamented and demanded that the government respond to their pleas within 3 days.
“Failure of the government to look into the genuine plight of its drivers shall result in the association taking out in the streets come what may," the ANTA cautioned.
ANTA Zunheboto: ANTA Zunheboto drivers and representatives in support of the ANTA stated that family is their first priority and they depend on their meager income earned by driving on daily basis. ANTA Zunheboto Katoshe Yeptho in a press release stated that “the problem arises when the government ignores our plight which will have a devastating effect on our family and existence.”
Without our source of income our families will starve and many drivers and their families are actually on a critical level as the lockdown has been going on for quite some
with this in mind we have requested the government to take necessary action. However the government seems to be ignoring our condition.
In the above light we want to reiterate that we wholeheartedly support the statement issued by ANTA, and once again request the concerned authority to look into the situation otherwise we will be compelled to take drastic actions as we will do anything to protect and look after our families.
