Bhandari, May 10 (MExN): MLA and Chairman SDPDB, Achumbemo Kikon, accompanied by Border Magistrate Bhandari, Commandant 7th NAP Bhandari, SDPO Bhandari and OC Changpang visited Longtsiri village on May 10, “to take stock of the situation arising at the said village” due to the alleged “interference by the Assam Police at the ongoing building construction by the Longstsiri inhabitant at their ancestral village land at the foothill area.”

As per the press release issued by Chumdemo Jami, PA to MLA & Chairman SDPDB, Achumbemo asserted that ‘the foothill area which are within the periphery of the Kakatanga forest falls within the Lotha Naga ancestral land, and therefore, as per the 1972 Interim Agreement between the Government of Assam and Government of Nagaland “Any land in Kakatanga forest which was already in occupation of the Nagas wherever they may be shall not be disturbed during the period of this agreement.”’

“As a matter of fact, the recent intrusion plundered by the Assam Police is illegal and cross violation of the 1972 Agreement reached between the two neighbouring states,” it asserted.

Further, the MLA has cautioned that “if such ulterior attempts are made in the near future by the Assam Police, shall be considered as breach of peaceful coexistence and shall not be tolerated in any manner.”
