Kohima, November 9 (MExN): Nagaland will join the global observance of Remembrance Day on November 11 to honour the sacrifices of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women during the World Wars and subsequent conflicts, a DIPR release informed.
Initiated by the State Government in collaboration with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), the annual observance is aimed at remembering the human cost of conflicts and reaffirming the commitment to peace. Last year’s first formal commemoration in Nagaland saw participation from the British Deputy High Commissioner and further strengthened ties between Nagaland and the United Kingdom, the release noted.
This year’s programme will be held at the Kohima War Cemetery on the morning of November 11 with the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, as Special Guest and Bhaarat Dave, Deputy Head of Mission, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, as Honoured Guest. Representatives from the Embassies of the United Kingdom and Ireland, legislators, senior officials, army and police personnel, war veterans and invitees are expected to attend.
The event will also feature book stalls on the Battle of Kohima, flower stalls, musical performances and the flagging off of a Vintage Cars Rally by the Flatbenders Club.
As part of the commemoration, an evening programme will be hosted at Hotel Vivor, Kohima, from 5:00 pm onwards featuring a conversation on “The Battle of Kohima: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” with Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, and politician-author Mmhonlumo Kikon.
