Kohima, September 1 (MExN): The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) is pursuing the restoration of Quarantine Check Posts (QCPs) in Nagaland to enable the health examination of livestock and poultry entering the State, which it said is currently not possible as the QCPs have been banned by the State Government.
In a press release, the department stated that it examines the health status of livestock and poultry entering the State through QCPs. However, with the check posts currently banned, the department said it is actively pursuing the matter with the Home Department to allow it to function as provided under the Nagaland Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2009, and the Check Post and Quarantine Camp, Manner of Inspection, etc. Rules, 2017.
The department, however, clarified that ante-mortem and post-mortem examinations at stockyards are under the control of municipalities.
The release, issued by issued by AH&VS Director Dr Kuokehebi Gwirie, further stated that the issue and cancellation of trade licences are also vested with the municipalities under the Municipal Act, 2001.
