Nagaland: Wokha DFO Sivachar wins Eco Warrior Award

Wokha Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Suman Shivashankar Sivachar WM been honoured with the Eco Warrior Award 2026 for his contribution to environment conservation.

Sivachar was among 15 forest officers recognised at the 4th Eco Warrior Awards and Eco Warrior Conclave held in New Delhi on September 29. The event was organised by the Indian Forest Service Association (IFSA) and Indian Masterminds.

Under the Environment Conservation category, Sivachar was recognised for Amur falcon protection, community engagement and conservation of the Doyang Reservoir.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav presented the awards and stressed that conservation is not merely a government responsibility but a national responsibility.

Addressing the gathering, Yadav highlighted the growing challenges of climate change, extreme weather events, forest fires, water stress, habitat fragmentation and invasive species. He called for a landscape approach integrating forests, wildlife, agriculture, water, livelihoods and human settlements.

The Minister also acknowledged the contribution of frontline forest personnel and tribal and forest-dependent communities in conservation.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to senior IFS officer Brij Kishore Singh, a 1976-batch officer of the Karnataka cadre, for his decades-long contribution to forest and wildlife conservation.

Other awardees were recognised under categories including Protected Area Management, Wildlife Protection and Conservation, Community Connect, Best Use of Technology and Special Jury Award.

The conclave also featured discussions on AI and technology for conservation and natural resource management, the role of corporates in forest management, and sustainable development and environmental ethics, informed a press release from the Ministry via PIB Delhi.
