Nagaland Horticulture & Border Affairs, Advisor Mhathung Yanthan today inaugurated Sub-Divisional Horticulture Office (SDHO) at Pfutsero under Phek district. This is one of the establishments of 11 Sub-Divisional Horticulture offices in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Yanthan said that Pfutsero deserve the status of SDHO as the area has great potential in agri and allied activities. He said that the establishment of SDHO at Pfutsero will go a long way in bringing the people closer to the initiatives of the state government towards robust growth of horticultural activities in the state. The office will also facilitate the farmers to adopt the scientific technology in farming to boost the rural economy, he said.
Yanthan called upon the farmers to take full advantage of this establishment in their journey to flourish in horticulture industry.
He said that Nagaland’s future and economic progress lies in horticulture activities.
In this, he stressed on the need to adopt scientific technology to sustain and enhance horticultural production.
He also lauded Nagaland Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Neiba Kronu for his constant support towards the growth of horticultural activities in the state and also his support towards establishment of SDHO at Pfutsero.
He said that Pfutsero occupies a central point in terms of horticulture productions in Nagaland.
Yanthan maintained suitable climatic condition and fertile soil are plus point for the farmers of Pfutsero area to prosper in horticultural activities.
He also praised he enterprising attitude of the community.
Also expressing happiness over the 360 acres of Horticulture Research Farm at Pfutsero, he opined that it has potential to become a research centre for regional as well and national status.
In this, he sought public support for protection of the farm and ensure that the scale of encroachment do not come into picture.
He also called upon the progressive farmers to be dedicated and put a concerted effort to make it as a research hub.
Yanthan wanted to see that it turn it into a Centre of Excellence in research activities.
Also speaking on the occasion, Nagaland’s horticulture additional director Y. Bongti Konyak was optimistic that the establishment of SDHO at Pfutsero will bring the government closer to the farmers and enhance horticulture activities in Phek district.
Pfutsero Town Welfare Committee convenor Mezelo Lomi expressed gratitude to the state government for establishing SDHO at Pfutsero. He hoped that it would open more avenues to enhance horticulture production.
Earlier, dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. Dr. Neingupe Chiero, Sr. Pastor Pfutsero Town Baptist Church. The programme was chaired by Pfutsero EAC Dr. Riku Khutso while Phek district horticulture officer Senkalemba P delivered welcome address. Vote of thanks was proposed by Kelhouzakie Chielie, SDHO, Pfutsero.
Meanwhile, Yanthan will be inaugurating another SDHO at Meluri on August 18.
