The first State Level Online Philatelic Exhibition billed as ‘Nagapex 2022’ got underway here today at Hotel De Oriental Grand.
The exhibition is organized by Nagaland Postal Division under the aegis of Postmaster General North East-II Dimapur, to showcase India's rich cultural heritage and observance of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.”
Addressing the inaugural function, Som Kamei, Postmaster General North East Region-II, Dimapur said the Department of Posts have decided to conduct Philatelic Exhibition during this current year using an online platform to reach out to the young stamp enthusiasts and young philatelists.
He said the pandemic has compelled the department to go online, “but this is a new opportunity for the Department to reach out to new audiences using platforms such as websites, social media and television and reach out to all young people and stamp lovers in every part of Nagaland.”
"Though stamps are the core identity of India Post, our focus has been on digital financial services provided by the Department through Saving Banks, India Post Payment Bank etc,” he said.
Kamei informed that the Nagaland Postal Division will also be migrating to Core System Integrator (CSI) system in which the operations, administration and accounting system will be integrated in one platform making it easier for monitoring, resulting in efficiency and better services for the public.
Kamei informed that Nagapex will celebrate the wonderful world of stamps through the exhibits of the competitors and participation from collectors.
Kamei also released Special Cover on Sekrenyi festival, the premier festival of Angami Nagas.
About philatelic exhibition
Razuzakie Phinyo, Superintendent Posts, Nagaland said that the philatelic exhibition is broadly classified as non competitive and competitive classes. This Nagapex also featured postcard miniature art competition.
The theme for these two competitions includes; Vishwa Guru Bharat, Ideas, achievements and resolve, Aatmanirbhar Bharat, India's rich cultural heritage, celebrating Unsung Heroes and Independence 2.0
“We attach great importance to philately promotion, and the inter-school stamp exhibits competition is one of our annual large-scale activities, he said.
Nagapex 2022 received 16 participants from student with 135 exhibits, 12 from invitees category with 721 exhibits and 42 participants from 40 schools in postcard miniature art competition.
He said that philately or stamp collection is an interesting and popular hobby pursued by the young and old alike throughout the world.
The exhibition shall be displayed on www.nagapex2022.com.
Phinyo said that stamp and postal history reflect a global connection among people and societies.
He continued that stamp collection is a healthy, affordable and educational hobby that department of Posts India committed to promotion among youngsters.
Dr. Andrew Ahoto, president All Nagaland Private School Association also spoke on the occasion as guest of honour while renowned philatelist Suman Deb from Silchar delivered virtual speech.
The programme was chaired by Nagapex 2022 assistant organizing secretary Kevikhrielie Kirha. Folk song was presented by Pfuchazünuoko Cultural Troupe, Kohima while Joy Justin Bongcher, Assistant Superintendent of Posts, Kohima sub-division proposed vote of thanks.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony will take place on February 5.
