Pholami village celebrates Sühkrünye festival

Pholami village today celebrated Sühkrünye festival with much pomp and traditional gaiety at Pholami village under Phek district. Sühkrünye is the premier festival of the Chakhesang Nagas.

 


Gracing the festival as the special guest, Keyingrangding Hegui, project director, DRDA Phek talked on the unique identity of the Nagas, adding that they can never lose their identity because every Naga is rooted to its respective village.

 


On the importance of culture, he said that Nagas need to value one's culture and traditions because it is “greatly valued by people around the world” citing the example of tourists thronging Nagaland during Hornbill Festival.
Hegui urged the citizens of Pholami to preserve their rich cultural heritage. Angam P Longho, BDO RD Block Chizami also spoke on the occasion.

 


Vekuto Vero, SDO (Civil) Chizami and Khrüsa Vasa, DPO Phek were also part of the celebration.

 


Earlier, Pholami village council chairman Vesopa Nakro delivered welcome address while significance of Sühkrünye was highlighted by Nevotso Mede-o, former VCC, Pholami.

 


The celebration witnessed folk song, folk dance, inauguration of agri link road and village approach road.

 


The celebration was chaired by Vezhoduyi Nakro while Pholami VDB secretary Kiizoveyi Kezo proposed vote of thanks.
