Nagas in the State of Manipur will hold rallies on December 17 “in support for early final settlement of Indo-Naga peace accord”.

This decision was taken after the United Naga Council (UNC)’s presidential meeting held at the UNC office in Senapati on Tuesday.

According to the UNC, the rallies will be held simultaneously on the day in “four Naga district headquarters” from 11 am onwards.

Today’s presidential council meeting of the UNC also took resolution that “all the Naga MLAs irrespective of his or her party should not attend the special assembly session being convened by the Governor of Manipur on December 18, 2019”.

The UNC presidential council meeting then, after a threadbare deliberation, observed that the resolution taken by Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) on November 29, 2019, "is unfortunate and also irresponsible, unwarranted and uncalled for at this point of time”. The UNC said that "any kind of benefit to the Naga people" has been opposed all along by “these people”. The UNC added that such attitude and stand are ridiculous.

The UNC presidential council meeting also resolved that “no unmandated Naga organization(s), group(s) or individual(s) should speak on behalf of the Nagas on land, identity, history, political rights and time honoured institution in any meeting, press or electronic media”.

Prior to today's meeting proceedings, an obituary reference to Late Salouni Pao, ex-president of Poumai Naga Union, was paid. The participants of the meeting observed a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
