Changtongya, January 23 (MExN): The Yaongyimsen villagers comprising of girl children and their mothers celebrated the National Girl Child Day on January 24 under the theme “Empowered Girls...Empowered India.” The celebration was sponsored by NABARD and facilitated by NSRLM Changtongya Block.
As per a press release, the significance of the day was highlighted by Amarjit Mangang, DDM NABARD Mokokchung at the event while Temsulepden Branch Manager NStCB, Ltd Changtongya Branch emphasised on the needs and importance of opening of a girl child’s saving bank account to the parents gathered.
Speaking on the topic, “Girl Child Empowerment” Moanungsang, BPM NSRLM Changtongya Block encouraged parents to ensure quality education to every child irrespective of boy or girl child.
He further deliberated on need of celebrating birth of a girl child in the family and community; promotion of equality and equity both for boy and girl child in the family; and to educate and orient the sons to ensure respect for the opposite sex are prominently cultivated.
Burning issues of the importance of Girl Child’s welfare and equal treatment were also highlighted by the resource persons, the release informed.
After the programme, DDM NABARD handed over gifts to all girl child participants, it added.
