JAKHAMA, AUGUST 10 (MExN): A four-day national seminar on “Reimagining the Ethnicity of the Nagas: A Discourse Narrative” concluded at St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama, with a valedictory session on Friday.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Research Development Cell (RDC) of the college, was sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

Chaired by Dr Hormila Zingkhai, IQAC Coordinator, the session began with a prayer by Sister Dr Laly Varghese, followed by a welcome address from Principal Fr Dr George Keduolhou Angami.

In his valedictory address, Prof Xavier P. Mao urged higher educational institutions in the Northeast to organise more such academic programmes, citing his own experiences. He said funds sanctioned for the region were often underutilised due to inactivity in research and allied activities.

The seminar featured five technical sessions with 18 paper presenters and resource persons. Earlier, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, founding member of Nagaland’s first regional party and former chief minister, delivered the keynote address, setting the tone for discussions on identity, tradition and socio-political transformation.

College authorities said the seminar fostered meaningful dialogue and expressed hope that such platforms would generate more informed discourse in the region.
