DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 12 (MExN): A UGC sponsored one-day national level seminar on e-commerce strategies for knowledge management – an analysis and evaluation was held on Monday at Public College of Commerce Dimapur.
Chief guest, Prof Amalesh Bhowal HoD Commerce department Assam University Diphu delivered a power-point presentation on the main topic and spoke about the rising usage of ecommerce even in rural India. According to the presentation, the survey conducted by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IMAI) revealed that the rural internet users have outgrown the number of urban internet users. According to the eBay Census Guide 2009, India has 2471 eCommerce hubs which are spread over the entire country. It was also found that the rural Indians were actively involved in online shopping - underway in 747 rural towns. He said few of the successful eCommerce ventures included Naukri.com which is a portal for employment, ICICIDIRECT.com which has simplified stock trading, Bazee.com – shopping portal and India’s answer to eBay etc.
Prof Bhowal also identified reasons why people were afraid of eCommerce. The reasons include; lack of trust, fulfilment issues, shopping experience, want to see the product before buying etc. Later, the chief guest released the PCC yearly journal.
