NTEP conducted training on guidelines for programmatic management of drug resistant TB in India -2021 at the IDSP Conference Hall, Directorate of Health & Family welfare Kohima.

Kohima, November 18 (MExN): The National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) conducted training on guidelines for programmatic management of drug resistant TB in India -2021 from November 16 to 18 at the IDSP Conference Hall, Directorate of Health & Family welfare Kohima.
According to a press release, tt was attended by Districts TB Officers, Senior Medical Officers of DR TB Centres & PMDT Supervisors. The State TB Officer, Dr Tiasunup Pongener welcomed all the attendees and encouraged all to strive harder to achieve the Programme’s Targets an Indicators.
The resource persons for training were D. Collins Z Sono, Medical Consultant WHO (NTEP), Dr Mezhuno, SMO NDRTB Kohima and Dr Kezhasino, Sr MO DRTB Kohima. Dr Mezhuno during the course of the Training mentioned that 28.00% of TB patients were found to be resistant to any drugs as per the National Anti-TB Drugs Resistance Survey (NDRS). “Prevent, Detect, Treat & Build” are the main DR-TB strategies under National Strategies Plan 2017-25.
Dr Collins Z Sono, spoke on the DR-TB Case finding, Treatment of DR-TB (shorter oral Bdq-containing MDR/RR-TB regimen), Treatment of DR-TB (Longer oral M/XDR-TB reg,BPaL), Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation etc. Dr Kezhasino stressed on the structure and responsibilities, introduction of the treatment of DR-TB, H Mono/Poly DRTB regimen, TM & Palliative care and Implementation consideration & patient flow.
Operational management of DR-TB patients seeking care in private sector was shared by Temjenochetla Ao, State PPM Coordinator while Lireni Humtsoe, State Pharmacist shared about the Supply chain management of second –line anti-TB drugs and logistics.
Drug Resistant TB forms as a challenge in efforts to eliminate TB by 2025 hence this PMDT guideline for India is an important document which requires wide dissemination through various platforms. Similar training is expected to be conducted at District and sub district levels in the coming days.
