KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 16 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), in collaboration with Tabitha Enabling Academy, Deaf Prayer Fellowship Kohima, Blessed Bonding and the Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland, observed the NBCC Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Sunday at the NBCC Platinum Hall, Bayavü Hill, Kohima, on November 16.

The programme was held under the theme “Strength in Weakness,” drawn from 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10, and highlighted the need for inclusivity, dignity and spiritual empowerment for persons with disabilities.

The service was led by Bideno Kikon, Secretary, Christian Education Department, NBCC, with Eliza Chishi serving as the Sign Language Interpreter to ensure accessibility. Music was accompanied by Shikalu Shohe.

The programme opened with a welcome note by the leader, followed by the congregational hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” A special presentation by Tabitha Enabling Academy featured performances including “Heavenly Father” and a re-enactment of “The Good Samaritan” by hearing-impaired students. The Deaf Prayer Fellowship presented “You Say.”

A video presentation highlighting disability awareness preceded the greetings delivered by Dr R Rose Chakhesang, Vice Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland. Emphasising sustained support and compassion, Chakhesang called attention to the responsibilities of the community toward persons with disabilities.

Scripture reading was presented by Nyano, followed by a life testimony from Vinopu Aye, who shared his experiences of faith and resilience. The SCF Bayavü contributed a special song.

The message was delivered by Dr Villo Naleo, Secretary, Social Concern, NBCC, who reflected on the story of Mephibosheth and the disadvantages and advantages he faced as a crippled boy. He highlighted the need to build support systems and create a system of mercy, drawing from the attitude of King David toward Mephibosheth. A special prayer was offered by Rev Izieteilung Terieng, State Chaplain, NLA, invoking blessings and strength for persons with disabilities, their families and caregivers.

The service concluded with the benediction through The Lord’s Prayer. The SCF Bayavü team served as ushers.

NBCC expressed gratitude to all partners, participants and attendees for contributing to a meaningful observance of Persons with Disabilities Sunday, reaffirming the belief that true strength is often revealed through life’s deepest challenges.
