The National Cadet Corps (NCC) today organised ‘Vijay Shrankhala’ by felicitating Indo-Pak 1971 war veterans and their next of kin from Nagaland at a function held at 1st Assam Rifles camp in Kohima in the presence of Major Gen VPS Kaushik, SM, IGAR (N) as the chief guest.
Honouring nine war veterans and another’s next of kin from Nagaland, Major Gen VPS Kaushik paid homage to all those who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in the Indo-Pakistan 1971 war.
He said the entire nation is gearing up for ‘Azadi Ki Vijay Shrankhala Aur Sanskrityon Ka Maha Sangam,’ to commemorate 75 years of Independence and 50 years of “our glorious victory in the 1971 war.”
As part of the celebrations, he said the NCC is felicitating war veterans and next of kin of 1971 war in 75 different locations across the country from November 28 to December 19.
In the Northeast Region, the flagship event was held at Kohima today.
Stating that the NCC is the largest youth organisation in the world, he said “Each of you therefore shoulder the onerous responsibility to lead and guide our society. You must therefore strive to imbibe these great virtues of duty, honour and sacrifice.”
Youth, and especially NCC cadets are the cutting edge of this nation. Your thoughts and actions will one day guide our collective destiny, he said.
Brig K Venugopal, SM, Gp Cdr NCC Kohima said that the NCC group headquarters Kohima hosted “Vijay Shrankhala” at Kohima today under the aegis of NCC Directorate, North East region.
He said that the event was held in consonance with the overall commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
“On this solemn occasion, we pay our homage to the martyrs of the 1971 war and look for their contributions as a guiding beacon for the future generations of this country,” he said.
The programme was organized by 24th NL (I) Coy NCC Kohima.
