NDWM - Nagaland Region observes Girl Child and Mental Health day

Dimapur, October 12 (MExN): The National Domestic Workers Movement (NDWM) Nagaland Region in collaboration with the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) commemorated International Girl Child and World Mental Health Day at the ACID Hall on October 12. 

Speaking on the theme of World Mental Health Day, “Mental Health in an Unequal world” Alomi Sumi, Counsellor Childline Dimapur, expressed that physical and mental health are very much connected.

“Our body works only when our mind works is sound, healthy and free. As we live, grow we need to give importance both for our physical as well as mental health and its well being,” she said. 

Sumi further said that there are plenty of mental health cases which either go unnoticed or not properly treated, and stressed on addressing the illnesses at every stage of life. 

Meanwhile, Sr Letitia highlighted the importance of observing International Girl Child Day.

“Equal rights, equal distribution, equal status should be our motto. The need of the hour is girl children should themselves feel that we are no less than men,” she said. 

Many a times, the gender disparity, gender discrimination doesn’t come from outside but from within either the parents or the elders, she added.

Reshma, an intern from NEEISR, also highlighted the importance and urgency of keeping oneself healthy from COVID-19. 

Sr Pramila UFS coordinator NDWM-Nagaland Region in her welcome address stressed upon giving equal importance to the mental health and its well being and said that it is everyone’s responsibility to preserve and to protect it.
