Dimapur, August 29 (MExN): The Department of School Education and District Mission Authority (DMA) SSA, Kohima, jointly organized an “Orientation & Awareness Programme on Inclusive Education of Disabled Students at the Secondary Stage (IEDSS) for School Administrators & School Heads under Kohima District,” at Zonal Council Hall, Kohima, on August 23 and 24.
N. Khevito Sema, Director of School Education, graced the programme as the chief guest. While gracing the programme, he urged the gathering that the ‘Target Group (Disabled Students)’ needs to be identified seriously and educate them accordingly. On IEDSS, which is a centrally sponsored Scheme, he said, every Government High School as well as Private Schools should put their efforts in converting their Schools as a Disabled School Friendly. He further stressed on the Disability Act 1995 and the RTE Act 2009, where the Rights of the Disabled Students in getting education is effectively laid down. He also highlighted the various provisions and their purposes under IEDSS, such as hostel escorts, transport allowances, scholarships, free supply of books, educational kits and other materials, infrastructural activities, Sensitization Programs, and so forth. He concluded his speech by assuring the gathering that the Department of School Education will make every effort to ensure that no disabled students are neglected in the process of getting education, and in the meantime, requested all to cooperate and support the Scheme, stated a press note.
The note also mentioned that Purnima Kayina, of Cherry Blossoms School, Kohima, talked on the Topic “Awareness & Types of Disability,” where she deliberated on the basic principles and components of Inclusive Education for Disabled Students and also the variety of disabilities which are covered under the Scheme. Dr. Chuba, Deputy Director, School Education & i/c of IEDSS, Directorate of School Education, dealt on the Topic “Centrally Sponsored Scheme of IEDSS,” whereby he highlighted the background and rationale of IEDSS, aims & objectives, the type of Scheme & Components, Appointment of Special Teachers, Remuneration, etc.
Also, Tali. Jamir, Deputy Project Director, SMA (SSA), Nagaland, gave a presentation on the Topic “Survey & Identification,” he emphasized on the correct and exact formulation when it comes to scripting through the Survey procedural forms after the target groups are identified. He also elaborated on the technical means and regulations while filling up the Survey Forms.
