The rate of unemployment among the Naga youths is increasing year by year. What could have led to this? Is it because of their laziness, lack of knowledge or something else? Is it because of their carelessness and recklessness in choosing their paths? Is it because most of our youths are literate but not educated? Or they aren't good at anything at all? Why do you think the rate of unemployment is increasing? Have you heard about the Psychometric test? Have you ever thought about how important and how helpful it is?
Psychometric tests are also known as aptitude tests. A Psychometric test can be defined as a scientific method to check the skill and interests and assess the personality of a person. This test has been proven to be helpful in finding the right career choice for a student. It helps a student to make informed decisions about their future study course. Career counselors use this test to know and understand more about the interest and personality of the candidate and assess their skills to find a suitable career path for them.
The recent and the most common term used by the students and youths while discussing about their future is Career Suicide, because of different reasons. It is because they chose the wrong honours paper or because they spend their college life enjoying recklessly. Most of the students and youths today are suffering because they chose the wrong course as a result of pressure from their parents, peer pressure or taking honours depending on which subject one scored the most in his/her class 12th exam. Choosing wrong honours and course is one of the most regrettable things a person will ever have in his/her life as it will be having a huge impact in one's life. There are many cases here in Nagaland where a person takes a specific paper as his honour thinking that paper will help him in his competitive exam not realising that paper is not going to work for him.
We really need psychometric tests here in Nagaland. The world is changing rapidly so even we need to step up our games. Instead of following the same pattern which we have been doing, we need to really start thinking what really is good for us. We need a Psychometric test after our class 12th exam so that students can know about what they are good at and what they should be doing in order to be a successful person instead of wasting his or her time in doing things which aren't fit for him/her. One will find out what they are good at once the result of the psychometric test is out. He/she can follow his/her passion after that instead of wasting time in the wrong course.
The benefits of the Psychometric test have been proven to be very helpful. After the 12th exam, most of the parents in central India and other cities of India take their Child to a Career Counselor or psychologist to test the level of their kids mentality, personality, etc. inorder to choose the right career path for their kids. My cousin who is residing in Mumbai took up Commerce in her intermediate classes but after her 12th exam, she visited a psychologist along with her mother and took a Psychometric test. After the result of the test was out, she was asked to pursue a management course. So, she is now taking up hotel management and is excelling in that field. She never once dreamed or thought of taking hotel management in her entire life but now she is happy and excelling in this field. Who would have thought this would be her career and the field in which she would be excelling in.
Psychometric tests have placed an important role in building a career. It plays a vital role in one's life. It is very vital for us to know about the weakness and strong point of ours in order for us to excel and make good use of our qualities. Parents in other parts of India take their child for this test after their High school exam or intermediate exam. Kids who went for this exam prove to be more promising than others as they know what they are good at and where they lack.
The time has come for us to step up our boundaries. We the people of Nagaland need an organisation or a psychologist or career counselor who will be able to lead the student in the right career path so they don't get lost. We students also need to think carefully regarding which course to choose and not take because your parents want you to, because your friends take a certain course or because you scored the highest mark in it. Also, the parents take your kids to meet a career counselor or a psychologist and see the qualities and drawbacks of your child and see what can be done. It will also be good to see the educational institutions implementing this in the schools and colleges.
I hope to see Nagaland where our youths spend their time doing things they love and where we can see youths being employed and excelling in their own way. A request to the Class 12 students who are appearing their HSSLC exam, after the exam make sure to take a psychometric test or meet a career counselor to see which will be the best path for you. Think twice, thrice or more before you come to a decision, and choose wisely. Lastly, an appeal to all the students and youths out there, let's not only be literate people, but also educated Individuals.
