Need for wider consultation with stakeholders on adult edu

Kohima, July 25 (DIPR): The function of adult education in a democracy is to provide every adult citizen with an opportunity of the type, which he/she wishes, and have his personal, enrichment, professional advancement and effective participation in school and political life. Adult Education can be remedial supplementary, complementary or substitute to formal education which confined to the early phase of childhood adolescence and early youth in human life cycle.
Briefing the media person at Hotel Japfu on July 23 on the background and status of consultations with stakeholders on NCFAE Report, Secretary (SE&L) MHRD GoI, Anshu Vaish said there has been a need for wider consultation with the stakeholders to have their view on NCFAE for the North Eastern States including the States of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhan and Odisa and added that the feedback and experience through this interaction will go a long way in addressing the needs and problems confronting on the process of adult education. She also said that because of the low literacy it is now a time to broaden and understand the continual education, post literacy and to have a clear vision for adult education in the coming 5 years plans.
Earlier, she released a book, Report on Elementary School dropout in Nagaland conducted and published by Research Cell SCERT Nagaland.
Joint Secretary (AE) & DG (NLMA), Jahmohan Singh Raju said the Saakshar Bharat focus on four components: basic literacy, basic education, skill development and continuing education. He said, the mission is to establish a fully literate society through improved quality and standard of adult education and Literacy, which is a flagship programme of the Government and is monitored by Prime Minister through delivery monitoring unit in Prime Minister office.
The programme for Adult Education will be taken up by the Village Level units and one Adult Education Centres (AEC) will be set up at each Village Council Level. In Nagaland four districts will be covered, Tuensang, Mon, Kiphire and Longleng. The funding pattern for the programme in the North Eastern states is 90:10 for central and the state government. The project cost is Rs. 7.26 crores of which Rs. 6.64 crores is the central share.
It may be mentioned that the issue of dropouts in school education is an over enlarging problem which needs to be looked with all sincerity and urgency and therefore, remedial measures should be adopted to reduce it. It is a problem faced by our society and dropout problem prevailed throughout the world irrespective of whether a nation is developed or underdeveloped. The release of the book ‘A Report on Elementary School dropout in Nagaland conducted and published by Research Cell SCERT Nagaland is a step forward in addressing the problem of dropout.
