A bridge in Peren is in disrepair and literally rotting away after years of neglect. The bridge falling under PWD (Roads & Bridges), Tening Division, is located between Tening Zero Point and Nsong town and forms part of the larger Tening-Lekie Road, which links Peren with Assam and Manipur.

Locals of the Nsong area told The Morung Express that the single lane Bailey bridge has developed large holes have developed on the deck after years of neglect and exposure to the elements posing a threat to commuters.

As per the information, the 2000-ton capacity bridge was built over the Herazambak stream in July 2005 by the PWD (R&B). Since then there has reportedly been no effort to maintain the bridge.

It is located some 65-70km from Peren district headquarters and connects Peren and Tening towns with several villages before linking up with Lekie in Dima Hasao, Assam and with the famous ‘People’s Road’ in Tamenlong district, Manipur.
As reported by The Morung Express in January, the Tening-Lekie Road, and the bridge in question, has become virtually forgotten to the powers that be, compelling the people of the Nsong area to crowd-source fund to repair a 31km stretch of the road.

Large holes, which have developed on the deck, as a result of neglect and exposure to the elements.

Meanwhile, no comprehensive action has been taken by the government to address the matter.
